I don't think the clock uses a "button" battery. I believe it is wired to the scooter battery. You probably have a loose wire? You would have to remove the dash in order to check that connection.

Try what you got, it can't hurt.
Also dishwashing detergent does the trick. I swore by Dawn, by but other people used other brands just as well.

On my 2006 model the actual amount of gas on a bone dry tank is 1.74 gallons, not 1.98 (7.5L) regardless of what the manual says.

You could get some "irrigation syringes" on med supply stores. They are 60cc's. Just google irrigation syringes and you will get a ton of responses. They sell for under $1.

Then get a few inches of clear tubing at your local pet store. It will be by the aquarium supplies.
