Re: Buddy 50 wont idle

Only two things will cause that on a buddy. Plugged carb, or low compression. A happy engine should be in the 130psi range, and below 115 they won't hold an idle at all. If the engine was seized....I'm thinking you might have a burnt up top end.

Re: Buddy 50 starts w/kick but not starter

That is bizarre....the buddy 50's party trick is that you can remove the battery entirely, and kick start the engine to have it run. The only thing the battery is responsible for, aside from horn and turn signals, is physically spinning the engine. The stator, while spinning, energizes the ignition ...

You do need to use some kind of an impact, yes. Also, if you have broken fins off the variator plate, you now need to replace it, as it's now out of balance and will shake itself apart.

Re: What weight sliders

For that setup, 7g sliders or rollers would do nicely. Stock is 8.5 if I recall, so this should move your engine rpm up a little during acceleration. I wouldn't bother with a contra spring just yet, wait until you get into big bore kits first (which is the next step, and you'll be glad you did it). ...

On the buddy 170, the fuel pump should spool up when you turn the key on. That's step one to listen for.
