I'd say go for a GTS 250 or 300 mostly for the fuel injection. GT200's may be tempting but they are pretty old at this point

Agreed. The 300cc version would probably give Vespa some competition in that range.

The stock whitewalls are pretty terrible, so almost anything else will offer better traction. Shinko is a good brand.

Well, it's not that tough, you just adjust change the face of the display. I mostly posted the link though to back up my claim that it is a common problem with motorcycles as well.

I would probably try some fuel injector cleaner additive in the gas first. Then removing, inspecting and cleaning the throttle body if the problem stuck around.

New Zealand is pretty loose about vehicle imports because they don't have any domestic manufacturers to protect. They are like the main recipient of used Japanese market cars.

After riding around a bit more, including some with a passenger, I'm pretty happy with the acceleration with the 10g rollers. I may switch back to stock for a quick back to back test, but I'll probably stick with the 10g's.

What weight variator sliders / rollers are you using?

Just switched from stock on my 170i to 12 gram sliders from Dr Pulley and am not super impressed. I think I lost acceleration but maybe gained a little top speed. The acceleration is more linear. I ordered some 10 grams rollers off eBay today and will report back when I install them. Acceleration is...

Any fullface helmet without a visor would make a big difference when looking around.

A wind screen will also make a big difference, but I'd start with a new helmet first!

The bike would be fine. Try to vary your speeds a bit though, never good to run a small engine at a steady high rpm for an extended time.

Oh, duh on the jetting. It doesn't have an 02 sensor in the exhaust like a car though, so does the ECU (or whatever) know to compensate for the extra air flow with more fuel? Or will it just run lean and hot?

Easy/Inexpensive Speed Upgrades for a Buddy 170i?

I recently bought 2016 170i Buddy with 1400 miles, and would like to get a little more top speed out of it. From what I've read, switching the variator rollers to Dr. Pulley sliders seems like a cheap and easy place to start, but I'd welcome any suggestions on weights. At my weight, the 11G sound li...

If this still a really bad problem in your neighborhood/city, you should ask your city council member to push the police to do something about it. Contact their constituent services and let them know you want something done about it.
