Buddy 50 squeaky brakes - any quick fixes?
As the title says, my brakes are extremely squeaky and it's really ruining the experience. Any suggestions on what to do about this?
I notice the problem is worse with two people on the scooter, could it be weight-related?

Hey everyone, I’m having some trouble with the electric start on my buddy 50 (1500 miles), and I think it’s going. It doesn’t work if the bike has been sitting for a while, so I have to kick it instead, and that works no problem. It’ll work if the bike is still hot though, but my fear is tha...

Re-jetting means putting new jets of a different size in your carburetor. It would be done after converting to a bigger engine because now there is a bigger cylinder to fill. If you're still using the jets that were meant for a smaller space, you're not pulling as much fuel into that space as you sh...

So the thread on all the music is great, but how do you play it? Headphones don't seem the right vibe, and I'd worry about bluetooth speakers falling out and taking up space in the front pocket.

Just a Craigslist buy with no papers, I did get a Bill of Sale though. NJ process requires title searches from the surrounding states, newspaper publication, attempts to contact existing owner, etc. Like I said, overall not a terrible process if you stay on top of it. I'd definitely still consider b...

Bought a Buddy 50 without title this January and finally finished the process of getting all the paperwork in order today...what a relief! A lot of it was my fault for not staying on top of things, and if I had to do it again I'd say I could finish the process in about 6-8 weeks, but still, what a p...

I'm looking for a light, easy, but still DOT-approved helmet for myself and my girlfriend. I can't seem to find anything that quite fits the bill. It's all a little too cumbersome or hardcore looking. Any suggestions on where to find something? To give an idea of what I'm looking for, here is a bicy...

Scooter smokes with ~ 1/4 tank of gas left
As the title says. My scooter had a really bad smoking issue a while back, and there was a thread about it. After refilling with a full tank of premium gas, everything was better for a while, until the tank got to about 1/4 full. Then the smoking started up again just like before. Filling it back up...

Smoke from CVT
I had the buddy on the center stand and held in the clutch while revving it WOT for about 5 minutes. After a while some smoke started coming out of the CVT box. Is this normal? Should I not rev it out while holding down the clutch? If so, why? It kind of freaked me out so now I'm thinking about chan...

Did you play with the new ignition before installing, like turn it back and forth? Is it a stock ignition? Some ignitions have more than two possible positions, but the buddy only needs two (three if you count the seat release). You may have twisted it into a third position which completes the speed...

That's funny, my other project right now is an '86 Spree. I took the muffler off yesterday and repainted before I considered decarbonizing. Yeah I only ran it for two minutes without the injector, just long enough to see if it was the oil and to verify that my oil pump works (it does). Still a smoke machine. I've since replaced the oil with Motul 710, and filled it with a fresh tank of premium gas. Smoking got slightly better, but not b...

Just drained the existing oil as best I could (any tips on this? it seems to not drain fully or quickly). Oddly enough the oil in there was blue, which doesn't match the Castrol 927 that was supposedly being used. Any thoughts on what this could be? I left the oil line disconnected after draining th...

Thanks everyone, that should clear things up (literally). HA! JASO FD, not JD FASO. Lots of brands have it, but Motul 710 is my favorite. Your pipe is getting saturated with that castrol, which isn't burning off cleanly in the catalytic converter. Switch over to FD rated oil, and you should see it c...

Tons of smoke after WOT - adjust oil injector?
So I have my Buddy all dialed in air/fuel wise, but I still get tons of blueish white smoke. It isn't there when I just start the buddy and let it idle, but when I go WOT it gushes out like a fog machine, and then continues to smoke more than it should once it comes back down to idle. I'm pretty sur...

Thaal, the gasket in the exhaust is already there, even after you take out the restrictor. If you want a new one you can get one at the dealer. What do you mean it's already in there? In the video it wasn't. Would it be bad to run it without any gasket? Edit: found the standard gasket here: https:/...

Thanks for the post! I bought the same aftermarket ignition switch but the plug is different and the wires are different colors. Did you have to rewire the original plug on the one you bought? Im not in the market for a new ignition, but that is cool. Does it have a compatible seat release mechanism too? Yep, it works. The latch uses a regular cable, and this one has a place for the cable head to fit and the internals to pull it when you turn the key counterclockwise. It pulls a littl...

Bought a scoot but it needed a new ignition. I didn't want to pay the 100 or so bucks for a new OEM part, so I looked around and found this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074X4VCNL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Fits the buddy perfectly (at least my buddy 50), only is...

Took the carb out and poked around. Mixture screw is now one turn out. Any further out and the idle seems to be too high, spinning the wheel. This seems wrong. Maybe compensating for a rich condition? (Still assuming IN is lean and OUT is rich) l. Couple things: 1) There should be a thumb screw idl...

The other adjustment on the carb is the idle speed screw, which on my ‘09 has a plastic thumbwheel on it for easy manipulation without tools. Not sure if this would have solved your issue, or if that was what you actually adjusted, but you can’t do much damage messing with it. You CAN potential...

The Buddy 50's came with a air/fuel screw? My 2009 didnt have one. Anyways, I would still consider cleaning out the carb and jets. Good job getting it running. Buddy runs for ~5 mins, cuts out - Autochoke/Enricher/Bystar
Wanted to post this to get some input. Not sure if the right fix but it definitely worked. Recently bought a Buddy 50 on the cheap because the owner thought it had carburetor issues. The bike would start easily, rev all the way up and down, and could even be ridden for about 5 minutes, after which i...
