Re: Buddy 170i Won't Start
First off, with a good charged battery, you should hear the fuel pump whine when you turn the key on and make sure the kill switch is in run. If you dont even get that, the pump isnt getting power. That could be because the battery is too weak to power it, something between the pump and the battery ...

Sorry but you'll have to split the cases for the clutch side seal.

Do you have the air filter installed, the snorkel and everything sealed up tight on the carburetor? Some systems require it in order to run right. That was good you raised the clip to the third groove. Raising the clip leans out the 1/4- 3/4 throttle. You can try going to the 4th clip up and see if ...

With that style box/housing with no oil pump you could just premix the oil into the gas and call it good. Someone has definitely stole parts before selling it to your friend. The electric starter is gone, a different flywheel is installed. Maybe the wrong electrical junction box? If you remove the c...

Pulled the stator and had no continuity between the coils so I eventually found where one of the copper windings had snapped. Soldered it as best I could and then reinstalled everything and I had lights. To answer my initial question resistance was super low through the blue and black wires. Less th...

Stella 4T stator resistance values
Can anyone with a Stella 4T get me a resistance value of the blue wire coming off the stator? Right now I get no continuity period.
Im trying to diagnose a bad regulator/ rectifier and think the problem might be at the stator instead.
Thanks everyone.

To answer your question, yes going to a mechanic to install the tire is purely out of convenience. Do it once and you’ll realize an hour later that a few bucks to a mechanic is worth so much more than what you spent on spoons, rim protectors, bead buddies with a lot less cursing/bloody knuckles/ w...

Call your local scooter shop and see if they’ll change the tire quicker if you just bring the wheel in. 10 minute job if they have a tire machine. Then you re-install. If that doesnt work, buy a new tire and take new and old to an independent motorcycle shop. Usually cash will expedite the process...

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the cracks in the casing. Are they really cracks or just casting marks? Sadly you cant just buy one half of an engine case. The two are mated together from the factory. Replacement cases are very pricey. Might be better to find an aluminum welder. How was the top end? You s...

I just wanted to wrap up this thread with an update. SIP was sadly back ordered on a lot of essential parts but I found Scooterworks had a replacement crank for double the price of SIP (ouch) and whatever else was missing. Couldn’t find any other US shops with parts but I’m happy with SIP and SW...

Stella 4T crank replacement
Friends Stella 4T crapped out with 2K miles. I cant find any sources for a replacement crank. Other than the 200 motor swap from SIP does anyone have any recommendations? I’m still waiting to hear from Vespa Motorsports.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Engine swap 170 to 125 frame
Does anyone know if its possible? A buddy of mine just blew up his engine but has a lead on a salvaged 170i engine. I know the 170i engine is injected and has the oil cooler up forward but other than that is there anything else that different that would not allow an engine swap?
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!

Adjusted valves and now can't go past 50
I just adjusted the valves on my friends 08 Buddy 125 to .08mm. Piston was moved to top dead center per the 3 holes and the marks on the cam gear. After buttoning everything up the bike started fine, accelerated fine but wouldn't go past 50. It didn't even feel like it had more to give. I'm waiting ...

Ok thanks for the service manual. I'll get the rear wheel off and look at the bearings. I'll also look for gear oil. Would bad bearings be the main problem as to why my friend can't go faster than 30? I just though bearings were for alignment and support. Should I check elsewhere? Dirty carb jets? M...

I didnt notice any unusual wobbling in the rear tire. I'm not sure about the gear oil but I'll check tomorrow. What does it take to change out the rear wheel bearing? 25,522 miles, 3 year old Buddy can't accelerate more than 30
My friend has a 2008 Buddy 125 that he rides non stop. An average day for him is usually around 100 miles. He recently has been having problems with his scooter going faster than 30 mph and just got a ticket for going too slow. All scheduled maintenance has been done on time. Fluids, spark plug, fil...
