Blur 220i/Honda PCX

PostPosted: Mon Aug 30, 2010 7:09 am    Post subject: Blur 220i or Honda PCX Reply with quote

I've never ridden a scooter before but will be taking the plunge soon. Both scooters (Genuine Blur 220i and Honda PCX) are what i'm looking for as far as style and brand reliability. My decision is being influenced heavily on 220cc vs 125cc and what that means here in southern california. I know a 125cc is illegal on the interstate freeways (like the 5, 405, etc.), but i can't seem to find info anywhere about state highways. PCH (highway 1), does allow 125cc right? Does that mean the green signed state highways (like sr-76/sr-133) also allow 125cc? Anyone in california with a 125cc bike know where to find info on this? The price difference is about $400, but i'd like to know if the Honda PCX would severely limit my riding aspirations in LA/Orange/Riverside counties if i live near the coast. Also, the Blur is air-cooled vs liquid on the Honda...is that a deal breaker or is it a non-issue? Sorry, i'm new to bikes. Thanx

i'm not in california but i do know i would not feel comfortable riding a 125cc on the interstate. top speed on that is going to be 50-65 depending on your weight, and your comfortable driving range is going to be 40-50mph. i'd go with the blur in this choice.

even with my 150cc blur i only ride the interstate for small stretches.

Is the Blur even available in California yet.

Last time I checked, a couple of weeks ago, the dealer said that they hadn't heard anything from Genuine as to when they would be available.

I just returned from Route 66 classics dealer in Marina Del Rey and they said i can put down a deposit now or wait till they come in which they expect soon. I wouldn't want to purchase the Blur without seeing it in person. I expect the Blur to be available in California soon if they've been cleared. Unless there's a delay i'm not aware of.

If i get the Honda PCX i won't be using the interstate because it would be illegal. But what i was wondering from people who ride in California is whether or not the 125cc Honda is legal to ride on state highways like PCH. In California, we have different designations for highways. The interstates are the ones i know are illegal (has to be 150cc or up), but i can't seem to find out if "Motor Driven Cycles" (which is what CA. calls non motorcycles), are allowed on highways that generally have speed limits lower than interstates.
The problem is i can't find any info on which highways (not interstates) allow "Motor Driven Cycles". Would the CHP know?
