So i'd been suspecting the Blur odometer was set in km rather than miles (ie, they'd just put their own faceplate on the standard speedo unit, which makes sense). I just took a short ride with a GPS... the GPS said about a little less than 3 miles and the odometer said about "5." So I think I'm right.
The GPS I borrowed is junky and it was a short ride, but I'll try a longer ride this weekend and see if it confirms it. I'll try to see how accurate the speedo and get some top speed confirmation, too.
Roy at Genuine said they're *supposed* to be in miles, and he was going to ask Taiwan about it. I wonder how far Jsrjr got before he realized he was only 3/5 as far as he thought he was?

Hi Bryan,
Hmmmmmm
Interesting. I'll check mine today. After my first ride, I thought to myself, 'wow, I didn't think I went that far?' ... so this could explain it. But I was having so much fun, I really lost track of time (but I did cool it down after an hour) _________________ Blaine

Doing all that math in my head will give me something to do on long rides... "Let's see.... divide it by 10, then multiply it by six..."
Or maybe I'll just buy a GPS.
What I'm worried about is that the manual and breaking-in instructions randomly switches between the words "miles" and "km" without changing the numbers. there's a big difference between 1000 miles and 1000 km. Once I'm sure the speedos are in km, I'll ask Roy to confirm the breaking in and service distances are in miles or km, and encourage them to make sure dealers make that clear to owners. I'm guessing the break-in is 1000 km, because 1000 miles is a REALLY long break-in.
Also, when someone says "Go two miles and turn left" there are going to be a lot of confused Blur owners.

Just did a (GPS) 6.91-mile ride to work and the odometer added about "15." So even though this is sort of a junky GPS, I know for a fact my work is not 15 miles from home, and I think it's entirely safe to say the odometer is counting kms (and maybe a little optimistic).
So the next thought: I sure hope they didn't calculate the gas mileage based on the assumption the speedometer was in miles. The PGO site says 38km/l (that's the evo model, not the standard 2-valve 150 we have, not sure how much of a diff that makes) which is 89mpg, which is pretty much what Genuine is saying. I don't think I'm getting that, but probably over 80mpg, which is good enough for me. _________________ 2strokebuzz: When news breaks, we put it under a tarp in the garage.

I also found my odometer off. It reads 1.8 bdu's to every 1 mile marker post. (.55). I think the only way to correct the odometer would be with a different internal gear in the speedo head. You may be able to adjust the speedo accuracy with a screw in the electronics unless the speedo is totally mechanical.-Kevin _________________ If anything can go wrong ... it will!

I have found the odometer on my '06 to be off, too. I haven't figured out the difference exactly, but it seems pretty close to kilometers.
I've only had my Blur about 1 month and have almost 700 BDUs on it. Not that I'm going to sell my Blur any time soon, but it's going to be difficult to sell somebody on the fact that the 10,000 mile odometer reading is actually only 5,000 miles(or there abouts). I could see the odometer being off by a small percentage but this is a 40-50% difference
This might be a stupid question, but shouldn't/couldn't this be covered under the warranty?
Has anybody posed this to Genuine? to your dealer?

My '06 Blur just turned 10,000 miles on the odometer, so does that mean I'm really at only 6,214 miles?

Seriously though, would this be a warranty item?

Sounds like you '06 owners are getting hosed with the odometer issue.
On my '07, what I know for a fact to be between 4.5 and 4.6 miles driveway to driveway from my home to work (road tested and proven over 3 years) comes out to be about 4.9 miles on my Blur. So less than 8% optimistic on the odometer reading.
No clue if that also translates back to the speedometer on the '07's. Im still waiting for my car mount for my AT&T Tilt, which I will test the speedometer and odometer with my iGuidance navigation software.

Well, I'm looking into an '08 digital dash panel for my '06, but first I have to see if it's compatible electrically and whether I can reprogram it for miles instead of kilometers. Physically, it'll drop right in. _________________ Fun Fact: In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.

Here's a link to a You Tube video showing the digital dash. It is installed in a G-Max 200, which is essentially the same as our Blur 150's (other than the engine, of course). I also found out that it will read-out in MPH by just pressing a button and may be plug-n-play.

Keep in touch with me directly when you start to get more info. It may be cheaper to order two of them and we can split the shipping costs from Taiwan or wherever you have to source it from... I am definitely down for this cluster assembly if it is a drop-in fitment. I would guess being calibrated for KM/H, that it does its own internal conversion to MPH, so it should be a little more accurate than what he have now. I wonder if we will be able to jimmy-rig an 18v screwdriver to the cluster to spin up the new one to our current (or converted actual) reading.

I'll see about a group buy once I know it's a PNP installation. I was sent some other photos showing the connectors, so first chance I get, I'm going to disassemble my Blur dash and compare the two. The current price I was given is US$120 each before shipping costs.
I just noticed something interesting in that video on You Tube - the speedometer is reading in MPH when it turns on. _________________ Fun Fact: In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.

I did a GPS check on my '07 Blur this afternoon. My odo is 9.85 percent off. This was a short test - 7 miles. I'll let post results from a longer ride as soon as I can do one.

Thanks for the picture Racenut. I need to see the actual pin-out of the connectors and compare them with the digital version. Notice the mechanical cable connection that goes to the front wheel? The digital doesn't have that, it comes with a mechanical coupler for the front wheel that screws into the original gear drive, but it has an electronic sensor built into it that senses wheel speed then sends that signal up to the dash panel via a electrical cable. _________________ Fun Fact: In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.

If it will work on '06s and isn't too hard to install count me in. I also have some pretty good shipping deals through work as well. I just want to get that little plastic rear fender/mud guard thingie that goes behind the back wheel too. I know I don't need it. I just WANT it. Black.

OK guys, it's too hard to tell if that digital dash will work in our Blurs' by just looking at pictures, so I'm going to be the guinea pig and buy one for myself first and try it. If it works, I'll post it here. All of the connectors look to be physically compatible, but I'd hate to say "yes, it will work" and distribute them out to everyone just to find out it doesn't work. I'd have the entire Blur population of 4 mad at me!
In the mean time, those seriously interested in getting one, PM me. The shipping might be a tad high from Taiwan because I'm paying $35 shipping cost to get one shipped over here. The shop said it may be less expensive per unit when multiples are sent because they'd be coming in one box. _________________ Fun Fact: In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.

OK folks, the speedos' here and...it fits like a glove!
Pops right in in place of the stock unit and everything plugs in with no modifications. The wire harness colors even match the scoot's wire loom colors. And the orange backlight matches the orange of the '06 Blur perfectly. Look for yourself:
The box it came in. Box looks too small - it's an optical illusion.
It's naked backside.
The new speedo cable with electronic sensor.
Close-up of the sensor. It screws perfectly in place of the original mechanical cable at the front wheel.
Sensor mounted on front hub.
The original dash panel's backside. No, it wasn't embarrassed to show everyone.
Installed, with key in the "off" position. You might be able to see that the clock is visible. Sorry, it's still a 24 hour mode clock.
With the key in the "on" position. Note that it's reading in MPH. It can be switched to KPH by pushing a button. If you haven't figured it out already, the top indicator is your fuel level gauge. Also, you push a button to get odometer reading and push it again for trip mileage which can be reset with a button.
Another shot stepping further back. I started the engine and the tach works fine. BTW: That little square silver thing mounted on my right mirror stalk is not a itty bitty GPS, but a bicycle cyclometre.
I haven't had a chance to ride my Blur yet because I'm doing some engine work, but one thing is for certain: you're going to lose your original odometer reading. In other words, after installation of this digital dash, you're going to be starting out at an indicated zero miles. Unless...you were to chuck the shaft of the sensor into an electric drill and spin it until the odometer reads your original miles. I haven't tried this yet, but in theory it should work.
I'll be creating a installation how-to soon and will post it as a separate thread. I'm working on getting a copy of the PGO 2008 owners manual to get more info on using/programming this dash, although I think I've figured it all out already. Installation time for me, including taking pictures was about 40 minutes. For those living in or around San Francisco, I'd be more than happy to help install the thing.
This is my current list of those seriously wanting one. PM me if anyone changes their minds or wants to be added.

The price is US$115 (I'm not making any profit from these) plus whatever shipping cost per unit is. I can't get a final answer on the shipping cost until I know exactly how many people are in. The shipping-cost-per-person will be divided by the number of units sent, of course. Payment would be via PayPal, since that seems to be the most convenient, unless you want to send a check or money order. If you don't live in the San Francisco area and can't pick it up yourself and it has to be sent (from SF), then add shipping via US Postal Priority Mail to where ever you are.
This sounds childish, but I can't wait to bring my Blur into my local Genuine dealer for whatever reason and see what their reaction will be to this new dash.

That is great news!! And the fact that it's got an orange backlight to match the 06s is sweet.
Let's get everybody confirmed so we can get them ordered, shipped and installed while it's still summer!
Any chance you can get my $6-ish black rear fender/mudguard shipped over at the same time??

Count me in, too. I feel dirty. I hate upgrade nerds, but that's just pretty neat. Maybe we can get a volume discount? I'd really feel less ashamed of myself it the price came down a bit. : )

I might be in for one of these. I'm going to think about it for a day or two. Actually, I've got to check with my mechanic to see if he can do this. I don't think I'm handy enough. I would really want it to spin it up to my correct mileage. Also, I'm interested in the accuracy.
BTW, did a mph check on my '07 Blur. I burnt 1.452 gals of gas and the odo showed I had ridden 117.3 miles. That's 80.7 miles per gallon, but the Blur's odo is 9 percent optimistic, so that's a corrected 72.63 miles per gals

AWESOME! I've been waiting anxiously to hear the results of this project! Too bad the cluster lights up orange thou, I was really looking forward to the blue lighting like in that video that was posted. Im still in for one thou, and will be needing mine shipped.
So how does that work anyways? Are we all paypalling you, then you will order the lot up and distribute them back out to us once you get them all in? Also, if its possible to check with your distributer if other backlight colors are available, or if the orange just happens to be the 150's color? Id still like to get the blue backlighted one if thats available for the 150.
Im glad that I have such low miles right now, will make it a lot easier for me to match mileage on the cluster than someone that has several thousand miles already!

That looks fantastic and the fact that it's orange is even better! Although anything would be worth it if it means that my speedometer/odometer might be somewhat accurate! My favorite part is that it's actually stock PGO, just not stock Genuine. Super!
Seriously, where do I sign up? _________________ Have you ridden a Blur lately? Me neither.

As far as trying to spin the odometer up to current mileage, I think I will just save the original unit and if it ever comes to selling and a question of actual mileage, I'll show them the original with x miles on it and the new one with y miles on it. x + y = total miles.
Otherwise they may doubt you actually spun the new up to current mileage.
Though it might be fun to see how fast it thinks you're going if you spun it up with a 30,000 rpm dremel tool

Yeah, I was thinking about that too - figured I'd end up photo-documenting it. Of course then the other question is do you roll the odo up to the number showing on the current dash, or the actual distance in miles? _________________ Have you ridden a Blur lately? Me neither.

Babblefish, you maniacal genius! Looks freekin sweet! I noticed on the various YouTube videos that it also comes in the blue LCD color as well. Any info if we have a choice or multiple colors? I love the orange, but the blue would fit my blue LEDs just a little more. Either way, though... Also, will the accuracy of the speedometer and odometer be the same, or does the new sensor mount and digital display give a more accurate reading? I'll PM you in the next few days to set up arrangements for the order. Again, great breakthrough, man.

My supplier has already reduced the price from $120 to $115 so I don't think he'll go any lower. $5 may not sound like a lot to you and me, but in Taiwan, it might be half a day's pay for some. I personally think just the cool factor and uniqueness is worth the price of admission. _________________ Fun Fact: In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.

Ha ha! It won't be that unique once we've all done it! Aren't we the majority of the Blurs sold in the US? _________________ Have you ridden a Blur lately? Me neither.

Yeah, just having a Blur makes us unique. Having a custom blur makes us weirdos.
