Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 14: Scooter Locomotion
Aug 29th- Sept 4th
This is my 14th & final week as huntmaster – thanks to all of our players!
YOU have all made my summer more fun by playing along & I hope you have had fun as well.
I am hoping everyone can get a pic in this week (even without the props) so we finish up with a LOT of photos.
Your scooter with a train or train station
4 pts- your scooter with a train (full size, real train, no model trains, no carnival rides, no toys but it doesn’t have to be a working train – for example, it can be an old train at a train museum or on display someplace – but it can also be a modern train as well like Amtrak)
2 pts if it is a steam train (so a steam train is worth a total of 6)
2 pts – your scooter at a train station (a real life size one, but it doesn’t have to still be in operation)
Note – you can do one of the first two or both (so for max points, you want a photo of your scooter at a train station while a train is there but if you have a station & no train or a train with no station, you can still enter those)
1 pt – if you are in the photo (entire body & scooter)
2pts – if you are wearing a train engineer’s hat OR a train conductor hat
(can’t have both) & yes, you must be wearing the hat on your head.
1pt – if you are wearing a bandana around your neck (not a scarf, a bandana)
2pts – if you are wearing bib overalls (any color is fine, but they must be bib overalls)
1 pt for the first pic in this week
Questions? You know where to reach me.
PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!! (if you don’t include your points, you don’t get them)
General Rules for every week:
-A new photo subject added every Friday. Participants will have until the following Thursday to post their pic (taken that week)
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-10 BONUS POINTS (good anytime all summer) for a photo of you getting a ticket (photo must include your scooter & a cop writing the ticket) only one of these may be submitted per player. (Thanks to kazoo for the suggestion)
(Edit – you don’t have to be REALLY getting a ticket… if you can get a cop to pose like he/she is writing you a ticket, that is good enough)
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prize? Sure, if we can figure out a way to do that, but the real prize will be bragging rights & all the fun we all had all summer.
Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt!
What is it? - Every Friday a new photo subject is posted in gallery forum & it will be your job to go get a photo of your scooter with that subject.
When is it? - It was started May 30th ran all summer, finishing up Labor Day weekend. 14 Weeks! Who? - EVERYONE is encouraged to participate, the more players the better! Some subjects will be easy & some will be more difficult. Some might be impossible for some people but do your best & participate when you can. Don’t worry if you didn’t get in at the start... just jump in anytime!
Here is a link to an index of the previous weeks as well as the weekly videos

Great idea this week! My winter riding coat that I wear over my leather when it's freezing cold is from the LIRR (Long Island Railroad). It's awesome because it's has giant orange and reflective stripes. I have to see if I have a conductor's hat. I do have the change holder they used to wear on their belts. _________________ Fahr mit mir!

Wouldn't that be 6 points? _________________ I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.

I think there should be bonus points for your scooter ON a train. Especially a subway train! _________________

First, thanks to you ScootLemont for rocking this hunt over the summer. I didn't get many pics in but I really enjoyed seeing the others.
Second, what up with the no model trains?? Thank God for the model trains, you know? If they didn't have the model trains they wouldn't have gotten the idea for the big trains. _________________ twitter: @joemazza

and just so everyone is clear on the ticket photo....

Since the top players are so close, & this week's props can all be borrowed or purchased, I am betting the winner will end up being the one who gets the ticket photo this week, in addition to full points for this week
Good luck everyone & thanks for playing for 14 weeks!!!

Does the "no carnival ride" stipulation mean that the train that goes around Hermann Park doesn't count? http://houston.about.com/od/artsentertainment/ss/museum_6.htm It's got a couple mile track, and is more interesting than the Metro Rail train, which has a station a whole 200 yards from my front door.

Sorry... but I am trying to avoid stuff like this one (link)
http://www.kiddiecarnival.com/images/train3.JPG
so I got to keep it to full size trains if you want points - BUT... that one is VERY cool & since this is the last week & points are not an issue for you, please feel free to post it up for no points

Well, I'm gonna sit back and watch Orange Guy and Sailortot and maybe MarsR battle this one out. My 19th floor escapade during office week was enough "adventure" for me. I have no desire to get a ticket just to get 10 points! And, so far, none of our wonderful law enforcement folks around here have much of a sense of humor about getting their pics taken with anyone.....much less a pink scoot. They're paranoid about it ending up on YouTube!
I will however, get a pic of a train, a train station and a bandana!

yep
what I am thinking is that the hunts will continue but not be 3 months long - either just one week at a time or maybe 4 weeks at a time
& they will be run by the winner of the previous winner
So lets say "joescooter" wins this hunt - he then takes over running the next hunt for 4 weeks & the winner of that one takes over for the next 4 weeks and so on

OK folks...my last entry. Here is the train station in the Center of the Universe -- Ashland (Amtrak ASD). This is the northbound freighter. At the crossarms is the intersection of the two main streets in Ashland...Center Street (with the RR tracks down the middle) and England St running east-west.
Here is a southbound freighter taken moments before the first photo. Notice the passenger with her luggage awaiting the arrival of the 11:04 passenger train, which was late. On the right side of the tracks is the campus of Randolph Macon College.
And finally for you history buffs....a marker at the historic train station tells of Stonewall Jackson's funeral train stopping here in May 1863 on it's way to Richmond.
So to ScootLemont.....I say a hearty "Thank You" for mastering this hunt all summer long. You've done an outstanding job. And in spite of our "disagreements"....I applaud your dedication and hard work. You've made some terrific videos and you've enable many of us to have a summer filled with fun and adventure.
To sailortot and Orange Guy......some outstanding photos from both of you....and may the "best scooterist/photographer" win! Both of you have done a great job and you both deserve a "first place" finish.
MarsR....your photos have been topnotch too....and all you need is that ellusive "ticket" photo to catch up to sailortot and Orange Guy.
Brape, Racenut, Biscuithead, Olivemusic....ya'll have had a great run. Brape...your ability to get the first photo for so many weeks was incredible.
Sotied.....oh sotied......where have you been the last week? I've missed you and your humor! I always looked forward to your posts and your zany efforts at pushing the envelope. You brought a funny and crazy zest to this game and it was great.
And to everyone else that played ..... you made this a great summer. I hope the rest of you enjoyed it as much as I did.
And what more fitting way to end this than with the pink caboose that I found during long city names week. So for those of you who boo'd my journal post that week......too bad.....suffer one more time. This is the last.
Adios and farewell.

I think four weeks would be the best. It's more competitive but not too drawn out.
We need prizes! Stickers or something would be neat

In the last summer installment of the hunt we were asked to take photos of ourselves, our scooters and trains, train stations and any props that an engineer might wear.
In these photos I've got the train, the train station, scooter and me and a bandanna. That means I get a grand total of 8 POINTS.
Here are the photos...
This is the main photo, but hold on there is a lot more to add color and fun to this week's adventure.
Tracks. This is presumably how the train got here, but I was rushing around like a madman trying to set the camera up and running so I'm not sure if these were used.
A more artistic view of the station and the tracks. NO, I wasn't about to jump onto the tracks to get a worm's eye view.
This is right down the road from the station. I raced the train, parked the scoot and got the gates in the photo too. Scary.
Trains move pretty fast. Doesn't it look like Scootle is watching as the train passes?
Different angle. You can tell I was running as this is a tiny bit blurry.
Signs near the tracks.
These gates come down pretty fast and then linger when they go up. Guess it's safer that way.
The summer was fun. Thanks Mr. Lemont. You did a great job. _________________ Jeff • #2163

Dorothy has been scooting around town, searching for the way home. Here are a few photos from her adventure so far . . .
Is this the yellow brick road?
Look! It's the Emerald City! And it's more beautiful that I ever imagined!
I AM OZ! THE GREAT AND POWERFUL!
I am Dorothy. The small and meek.
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT TRAIN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! NO!! WAIT!! DON'T TOU . . .
Oh, drat!
Dorothy's journey will continue tomorrow. She's determined to find her way home!
(BTW--The Emerald City is Tulsa's Union Depot, an Art Deco jewel built 1929-31. It was taken out of service when Amtrak halted passenger service through here in the 70s, and has recently been repurposed as the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.)

These pics are awesome!
I just haven't been in much of a "scavenging" mood lately, but hopefully I'll be contributing again soon!

Here's my photo - even though it won't count, I liked the train in the park better than the light rail train. I also attached a zoom in of the big picture so you can see the train depot sign. Yes, the depot for the train in the park is basically a tent, but it's fun anyways.
(Not qualified for)
4 pts- your scooter with a train
2 pts – your scooter at a train station
(Qualified)
1 pt – if you are in the photo (entire body & scooter)
Total: 1 pt

Helmets off to you, SL. The Scavenger Hunt was an inspired idea. Like this week's Hunt, it may at times have generated a little steam, but all in all was just simply a pleasure to read and participate in. I can only hope that we can continue it and make you proud!
So here is my submission for week 14:
4 pts - your scooter with a train
2 pts - if it is a steam train
2 pts – your scooter at a train station
1 pt – if you are in the photo
2 pts – if you are wearing a train engineer’s hat
1 pt – if you are wearing a bandana around your neck
2 pts – if you are wearing bib overalls
14 pts

I cant believe all the steam trains - I figured there would be a lot more commuter & amtrak trains (like mine will be)
very cool!
Syd - nice hat - did you duct tape that to your helmet & ride to the station like that? Its a good look - thanks for playing!

HaHa. No, not exactly. In fact, I was going to wear the overalls over my mesh jacket, but I couldn't pull it off (so to speak).
The hardest part of this last hunt turned out to be finding the overalls at a price I wanted to afford. It's hard to find that kind of coverall in PHX metro. _________________ Don't beat the red horse.

No kidding! I ended up spending more than I wanted to, but keeping the tags on them and took measures to keep them clean and will be returning them tomorrow
Here's my entry for the week. We were very short on time so my wife didn't suit up for a pic with her new Buddy, but can assure you she'll be in on the next one
Trains were just not in a picture posing mood today, so we had to go pretty wide to get it all in. Sorry, I don't think Ansel Adams could have made a good photo out of what we had here.
4 pts - your scooter with a train
2 pts – your scooter at a train station - Watsonville Junction Depot
1 pt – if you are in the photo
2 pts – if you are wearing a train engineer’s hat
1 pt – if you are wearing a bandana around your neck
2 pts – if you are wearing bib overalls
12 pts

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing with all the steam trains.. especially the one that's RUNNING.
There is a theme park that has a couple steam trains up past Santa Cruz, but it's set way back and there's no way I could get the scooter anywhere near the station.

Just scored myself a hat ... now I need to find a train and a station in the same place. _________________ I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.
