Anyone run across a new source for an exhaust recently?

I know it's been done and done in the past, but i was wondering if anyone's come across a new source for an exhaust for our poor abandoned Blurs recently. I wouldn't mind the Prima, but it's been out of stock for a while and it's a little on the pricey side to be honest, especially compared to the Buddy's exhaust price.

I figured I'd start a new exhaust thread for 09.

Monthly bump! Anyone not happy with their Prima exhaust, shoot me a PM.

For those without an exhaust, chime in... maybe we could urge Scooterworks to get another production run.

For those that have found another exhaust (where the pipe goes above the fan shroud) speak up.

I've thought about buying a generic GY6, carbon fiber exhaust system and making it work on my Blur. The main difference I can see is that the manifold pipe goes under the air intake with the generic rather than over it. A custom bracket might be neccessary to attach the muffler to the scoot - no big deal.

A custom bracket is necessary. I guess I'm being a stickler, but I kinda like the idea of the pipe going above the fan shroud. I guess I just want the "bolt on" convenience especially since I don't have all the tools I'd need to make a custom exhaust. I've even thought about sticking a drill down the stock exhaust (I'm not doing this by the way) to open it up a little bit as I actually like the way the stock exhaust looks.

I'll keep looking. but if anyone finds something.... please post! Smile

There is a place in So Cal called Scooter Dynasty that said they could get me
an MRP pipe for my Blur. Try 'em. The guys name is Vincent. I don't have the # right now but you can look it up.

When I checked a week ago, MRP didn't have their exhaust in stock. Also, they want $370+ which is WAY too much. I'm probably just being picky. Ahh well, the search continues.

Hmm, I saw these pics on the the PGO GMAX fan page on Facebook.. not sure if the person custom-fit an Akrapovic or if they actually make one for our scooters elsewhere.

And here Ive been sitting around watching my Prima pipe collect dust in the garage all this time Ive had it listed for sale on the forum... I guess there really isnt as much demand for an aftermarket pipe as first seems.

I'm thinking of making my own. I'm not crazy about the Prima, just not a fan of the way it sticks up. I can't get my saddlebags on with it. Plus, it's not as big of a difference as the Prima for the Buddy. I'm starting to think I should have held onto the Buddy Prima and hacked/welded it onto a custom header for the Blur.

GFridrich3, I think it's sat so long because you were asking about full price for a used pipe with no pictures. I see you've lowered it a little since then... I'm not saying you should do it, but I took nearly a hundred dollar hit on the Buddy pipe I sold a few months back.

I don't know why they increased the price at Scooterworks considering that they're probably not going to restock the Blur exhaust. When they actually carried it, it was $260. So if they do get them back in stock, then you can say it's $100 savings. As it sits now, you're taking a $35 hit and most people who have a Blur know that. Sorry to be the one to point it out to you, but I think that lends a sort of "shadiness" to your price especially with the lack of picture.

That being said, if someone really wants a Prima exhaust, a used one sight unseen, then yours is a good price. I'd still suggest a new gasket, since they're the compression type. I'm sure someone will buy it, I'm just suggesting that you might be waiting a while.

You really would do yourself a favor by posting a pic of it.

Here's a pic of it on my Blur before it sold. Its sitting in my garage collecting dust now. So what if my asking price is higher than YOU want to pay for it? Fact is you dont have much options, you can complain about what the price was before and is now, the pipe is still out of stock, and like you said, probably wont be back in stock again. The #110 jets are out of stock too and have been for the longest time too. I have both parts ready to buy RIGHT NOW, the jet IS brand new, and the pipe is just as good as a brand new one, gonna look the same, gonna work the same, only difference is that its coming from some other guy instead of the dealer. Why should I have to lower my asking price on a part other people want and cant buy new? Im not being shady in any way, im asking what I feel the exhaust is worth, in both the savings in time and frustration of waiting for something on backorder for an indefinite amount of time.

I'm not saying you need to lower your price. I'm pointing out possible reasons that no one is buying it. I'm not willing to pay any price for one because I already have one and I've since taken it back off because I like the stock exhaust better. Hell, I might even sell mine because I'm still looking for an alternative exhaust.

I'm not saying that you should lower your price. I'm not even saying it's a bad buy. I'm telling you why it's not selling. When buying something used, people want to see the item as it sits, not a picture of it on the bike. It'd also do you well to put the picture in the for sale post.

So, back to the original thread. Since we can't find options for a bolt on exhaust, has anyone given though to fabricating a manifold and using a free-flow exhaust more commonly found on ebay? I'm with Babblefish, a carbon fiber one would look pretty sick. I've even found some that are not free-flowing, but are listed as having a back pressure design.

I came across this exhaust when I was searching carburetors on the internet. It's a good looking pipe probably with a good looking price tag too! And you have to be adealer to buy it to boot.

Hehe, way ahead of you there. These are out of production and the minimum order is 100 (or was it 150?) units for them to commit to making another production run. It'd have to be ordered overseas as well, since Scooterworks has an exclusive import contract with NCY.

They do look nice, don't they?

You know what we really need is a source for Blur headers that is big enough to fit normal exhaust openings. That way all we have to do is throw a GY6 exhaust onto it and be done. Ebay has hundreds of them. But we're stuck with this tiny header! GRRRR Mad

Thats what I'm saying. I had to "upsize" my header at a machine shop to fit a Two Brothers exhaust to it. I just could not wait for someone to build an exhaust for a scooter that may or may not be picked up by Genuine. So right now its at the shop getting rejetted. You'll find a lot of scoots on MB that had their headers upsized.

WOW that is actually REALLY cool looking. When you added the larger diameter pipe you made a stepped header. By changing where the step is you can change the power curve of the engine some. Also that Two brothers muffler looks great on there too. What size pipe did you use? 1" diameter (OD)?

Here's the dimensions from the exhaust website:

Header Features:
· Mandrel bent thinwall (0.35” x 1.125”) stainless steel headpipe
· CNC machined stainless steel headpipe collar
· CNC machined aluminum headpipe flange (gold anodized)

But you need to sit with your machine shop guy and figure out how you want the pipe to look and sit. By the way both the muffler and the header come as a kit.

Considering I stole Scoot Over's Blur setup. I was a little unhappy with the lag from medium to top end. So my scoot mechanics are putting some goodies under the hood. But I promised to keep it quiet. Sorry.

The muffler and header will cost you roughly $270. I found it on ebay for cheaper. Then you have to pay the machine shop guy $$. Then you have to pay the mechanics to rejet your carb $$. Before you know it that MRP muffler isn't looking so bad. Ha more money than brains, thats me!

OK, now for the obvious question: how does the exhaust you've got on there effect the power delivery? You mentioned a lag...

Is yours a stock motor (until you get it back from the shop that is)?

OK let me see if I could answer your question. The lag I refer to is when I hit a certain speed, around 50 mph, I seem to climb slowly to 70 mph. This is different from 0-50 mph. Where I accelerate quickly and steadily. But it was this way with my old exhaust too. All the power is there, but I believe the carb is insufficient. You know when you mess with one thing you inadvertantly have to mess with three other things. I have no modifications to the engine.

Lol, yeah, bolt on is a lie.

I've found that the Blur likes a little backpressure, and the stock pipe has really grown on me. I was able to hit a higher topend with the Prima pipe, but when I was thinking about selling the Blur, I put the stock exhaust back on and have just left it on. The stock exhaust give my butt the feeling of a little more torque. I love torque!

I was chatting with Sean at Philadelphia Scooters about upgrading Mrs' Buddy - it already has the Prima and 92 jet but the rollers and spring werent changed blah blah blah long story short Mrs' doesnt need/want more performance from the Bud, she's perfectly happy with it the way it is. So at the the (almost) end of our Buddy chat Sean mentioned that we could do the same upgrade to the Blur!

'but I thought the Prima's weren't available for the Blur" says I

'hmmm - that may be, but the NCY sounds really nice - like the Prima on the Bud. we just put one on another customer's Blur and he seems very happy with it'

another long story short - I'm (Sean/Dan are)doing the slider/spring upgrade to the Blur but keeping the stock pipe (for now) but there is at least one Blur in the Philadelphia area with the NCY pipe installed. I'm sure the fine folks at Philadelphia Scooters could point you in the right direction if you're interested in finding out more about it.
