Buddy Body Parts - the wrong part?

Post by bingetv »

Recently I had the front panel of my orange Buddy ripped off (see this thread:
topic11488.html). I ordered a new part online. I just got it today - the part is not the right color! Yes, it's orange, but it's a darker orange that does not match the buddy, not even close.

<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3663/370 ... 45.jpg?v=0">

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/370 ... 27.jpg?v=0">

Also, it's missing the logo and silver insert.

So, this is my big question. If I want a REAL replacement part, not this aftermarket piece, how do I get it? Is going to my dealer (not close by) the only way to get this replaced? I'm happy to put the part on myself, I just need the part.

Help - my buddy is suffering! Thanks!

Hi there-

Sorry for your parts situation but I have a couple of questions- There are two different orange Buddy colors in existence. The original orange was actually called "Sunset" and looks sort of like the part you got (though also sort of not!). Are you sure you didn't simply receive that color by mistake? I'm not doubting you, but what makes you think it's spray painted? It's hard to tell that from the picture.

Also, that is how the front panel comes- no center piece or logo. Those are different parts.

Have you contacted Scooter Lounge yet? It seems a bit unfair to post this here if not. They are members here and seem to be very good at communicating.

And you could try to call Scooterworks, but you may end up having to go through your dealer.

Please let us know what Scooter Lounge has to say though so anyone reading this thread will know the outcome.

Thanks!

I will hold off on my judgment of SL. If there is more than one shade of orange, then they would have no way of knowing that I have this shade. The web site only offered "orange" as an option, which seemed obvious enough. I will edit my original comment to reflect your point.

I'm calling them now, but before I do, I want to know if they actually DO have an exact match to the part I need - Logo and all. I know what my dealer will say (no), and I know what SL will say (yes), so the only way to know is to call on the wisdom of the customers (you all) to learn where I can get an exact match.

(as for the paint, the color has light sparkles in it, as with a paint color you'd get from a spray can off the shelf.)

Cool- please let us know! And I actually think that the darker orange should be called Sunset everywhere, so you should have been ok choosing Orange.

I've heard of people calling Scooterworks to get the logo. I'm not entirely sure about the body panels. I know Genuine/Scooterworks has changed their relationship slightly. But there are various threads here about people ordering that front cover from either their dealer or Scooterworks and not getting the decals, so you may have to do some hunting. If you do check with SW, make sure to call them as none of those parts are listed on their site.

Good luck and hope it works out. I'd say make a two tone Buddy but that would be one ugly two tone.

(Also I had edited my reply as you were quoting- I didn't mean to sound like you were ranting against SL and changed what I said to reflect that).

Both the silver shield and the "Buddy 125" logo can be removed from the broken part and attached to a replacement.

As was suggested, I have jumped to the wrong conclusion.

I did receive an original manufacturers part, but it was a previous shade of orange ("sunset"). The shade I need is called tangerine.

Scooter Lounge was very responsive on the phone and assured me that they will get me the right part. The also explained that this part comes from the manufacturer.

In my defense - when I got the part, I had flashbacks of my days working with aftermarket auto parts when the colors rarely matched the original. I guess I just want my lil' Buddy to have the very best!

Glad to hear it! I saw where you ordered it from and there did seem to be only one option for "orange". I had forgotten that the current orange is called Tangerine. They could make that a bit clearer. So far everyone has been pretty impressed with their service and so I'm glad to hear they've got you sorted.

Glad they've got you worked out. How about the silver piece and the logo? I couldn't tell from your pic if there was damage to the silver piece but as someone above suggested you might just reuse them both. A little bit of heat from a hairdryer will get that badge right off and it should stick again just fine.

I think I can reuse the badge, and I'm still waiting to hear the price on the new logo. I might try and attempt the switch. Thanks for your help.

I have a logo that I never put on my Buddy. It was $10 if you want to buy it form me. PM me if you want, its been laying around for months and I'll never use it.

Also, just take the silver center piece from your busted part and put it on the new.

I just saw this and happen to have a sunset Buddy, yes, the paint as some sparkles in it if you look closely at it.

Glad they got it figured out and I hope your Buddy is ready to go out and play again soon!

Cheers,
