[NSR] Ground keeps on shaking in So Cal
We just had another earthquake off the coast again. The ground has been shaking all year in SD County with small quakes. This one was a little larger at 4.0. Not enough to cause any damage. Our house shook for a few seconds.
The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.

I always check here:Angela wrote:Why do I never feel them? They have to be big ones for me to notice.
I did hear a noise, maybe yesterday, that sounded like an earthquake. Anyone know if there has been one in the last few days?

I also report my quake experience there when I can. They have a little form with several questions.

I'm sorry. I took that WAY out of context.Angela wrote:Why do I never feel them? They have to be big ones for me to notice.

Ugh. I don't even want to think about it. I've been reading.

I grew up in the valley, and lived on the 2nd floor in the Meadows Apts. in Northridge when they pancaked. I was 8.
I live in Ventura now, though, so we'll just sink into the ocean instead.

Hmmm, you have to wonder about this giant squid story and if it is related to the quake:

-or if this related: People reported a strange smell near the ocean today. When I find the story I'll link it.

Thats a fact of life 'round here. Biggest quake I ever experienced though was the "Nisqually Quake" in 2001 in Washington State. 6.8, what a ride!pcbikedude wrote:We just had another earthquake off the coast again. I say keep 'em small and frequent too....takes the pressure off.

I lived in West Hollywood when this quake hit. I could go without seeing another one.Tricia wrote:Ugh. I don't even want to think about it. I've been reading.

I don't know how you guys live out there!
The ground just starts moving around under you every so often...
Sea monsters start washing up on shore...
Buildings and roads collapse on top of people...
It kinda freaks me out all the way over here in Ohio! I can't imagine living where this stuff is actually happening!
Wow, just wow!

I moved to CA in 2000 and have yet to endure a major quake.
Things that surprised me about quakes (for people who have never experienced one):
1. From TV and movies, you get the impression the ground shakes back and forth a lot like a paint mixing machine. Nope, it's like the earth turns to liquid beneath you and starts moving in waves. The first time I felt this, my brain tried to deny it. It was as if the laws of gravity and physics had gone haywire for 30 seconds.
2. Earthquakes make a noise. You can hear it coming.
3. Some of them are just like brief jolts, like someone punched you in the butt.
4. After a small one, I'll look at my wife and say, "Did you feel that?" every time a big truck goes by.
5. The rollers I've experienced are kind of fun. I know that little kick of adrenaline won't be so enjoyable when a major quake hits.
