Rear shock advice

Post by db »

Which rear shock to get, the NCY or one of the YSS one's? If a YSS which one? Is NCY the only one with a replacement front shock, or the only one worth considering?

Thanks

I think you should get this one and then tell me if its worth the money. (or you could wait tell I break down and buy it and I'll get to tell you if its worth the money) :D

wow, $160 would be a pretty sweet deal. I've been eyeing that shock for over a year now but without any reviews its hard to spend that kind of cash.

I bought this one around Christmas and I'm really, really pleased with it.
http://www.scooterworks.com/YSS_Adjusta ... 20C556.cfm

When I installed it I decided to take a chance and leave it at the factory setting,
(I found out afterwards that I couldn't get the wrench in there to change the adjustment with the bottom bolt attached, so I got lucky).

It is so much smoother than the standard rear shock.

Really worth the $. Even better when it's on sale.

I got this one about 18 months ago. Talked with scooterworks about this one or the $160 YSS, and their opinion was that unless I wanted to really "bomb into corners" then this one was great.

I just wanted to smooth out the bumps and potholes a little, and this one has done that well. I left it on the hardest setting due to my 250 lbs of weight at the time. You do have to either remove one bolt or some people do something with the air box if you do have to adjust it. Since I basically never do, it does not worry me, but a great upgrade over stock for cheap.

Sounds good, thanks for the replies, it seems like it would be a pain to have to undo a bolt to adjust the screws where as the ncy looks like you adjust it with the knob at the bottom-not having to remove anything

Yes, you did mention the cost.
Would you like to provide a link as to where you ordered it? I haven't found it using RDR Suspension in a search.

how did you drop the front? And does it make the scoot less maneuverable, cause I do like to lower things and well, that is a good summary of me and vehicles, ooo but how will I get it into and and out of the the shed when I park it....

I also have a lowered cafe bike. If lowering it would be a problem then just leave it alone. I just lowered it for looks and that i'm 5'3".

The only problem would be when i park it in my shed at night, I use a ramp as it is, when I load or unload it. The ramp never stays put when I take it out, so I have been wanting to make something to keep it in place better, this would be more of a reason to do it. Like I said I've lowered almost every car I've owned since '92, so I do understand the limitations of doing it, and a friend of mine had a street bike he lowered waaay to much, so I'm going off what he complained about.
