Yes, that is infact the engine from a 2007 Vespa GTS 250.
Yes, it is infact going to go into my Buddy.

I'll have the world's first Voodoo Buddy GTS 250.

I don't think the plastics of a buddy nor the 10" wheels are a good idea with an engine that size.

I can understand that with the 10" wheels, but why the plastics? There's plenty of bikes FAR more powerful than that that are plastic. Like the 900+cc street bikes for example.

I don't know, I think as long as you can get tires rated for the higher speed you'll be fine. I would guess that stock, the engine wouldn't go much faster than your already clocked 88mph.

Well, official top speed of a GTS is 80mph. The Buddy is a LOT lighter though.

Yeah, that's true. What are you figuring the top speed will be with this build, any ideas? I'm assuming that you're shooting for triple digits so long as you can find some tires that will hold up to those speeds.

I just wonder if these plastics are good for that torque. Are those other bikes held together with little tabs far and few between? how much more torque does that have? it's top speed is pulling something that weighs 150lbs more. so it'll be way faster in such a light frame. I just wonder if that light frame can really support the torque. We see how much vibration the buddy gets with just 161cc - it's shaking pipes loose!

You're crazy Kaos. Don't ever change :)

I can't wait to read the reports. I have to admit though, I am also curious to see if the frame can handle that much VooDoo.

I'd guess its going to be able to hit triple digits, and yes I'm gonna try if I can find tires that'll do it :)

The front fairing on my friend's GSX-R is held on almost exactly like the Buddy's so I THINK it'll be ok.

The GTS is rated at 25HP at 16.2FT/LBS torque, vs a STOCK 125's 9.5HP (no idea what the torque is)
So I may have to do some frame reenforcement. We'll see once I start getting things installed.

Yea no worries Kaos the frame will hold up just fine under that motor. However I wonder if the wheel splines line up from the buddy. Are all the electronics and radiator included in the sale?

I'm not yet sure about the wheel splines, I'm hoping as I'd like to keep the 10" wheel. The full wiring harness, electronics, and radiator are included, so I just need to get a pipe, and maybe a wheel.

Are the buddy motors top or bottom mount?

Buddy is top mount I *THINK*, the GTS motor is bottom mount, so definitely some fab work there to install it.

Maybe ask if you can have the stock motor mount?

I'm hoping they'll let me have it, I asked but the owner is outa town till Monday, so we'll see what they say. It'd make things easier for sure.

Still waiting for all the parts to get here. And I had to order the engine mount as the person I ordered the engine from didn't have one.

Kaos;

I thought you might want to see this: http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic32797
It’s a small Vespa with a big motor.

How is your project coming along?

Something occurred to me... where are you going to stuff the radiator so that it gets air?

Lostmycage wrote:Something occurred to me... where are you going to stuff the radiator so that it gets air?
I've got two thoughts on that. I've got the oil cooler bracket kicking around from a 150, so I may mount it underneath the body where the oil cooler would be. The other option is to run it all the way to the front and install it under the front plastics.

I like the orange. Quite a few of my vehicles over the years have been that color, I'm gonna keep it.

Yeah, no tukus tattooing for me. I'll stick to the Voodoo Buddy patch on my Jacket.

Just another thought...

Is it going to be too much torque for the Buddy's transmission and gear box?
Probably not but I was just wondering.

The buddy's transmission is part of the motor, so that goes out the door with the 161, to be replaced by the 250's trans.

No sh!t Kaos, I went to the store yesterday & found a skull chrome tire valve cap in the parkinglot , which I wasn't aware was so common. Thought of you & the voodoo before I realized your way beyond that! GO FAST
