My Buddy 230cc

This photo is not so clear, but we promise some better shots soon. We just wanted to show everyone some of the crazy stuff we are doing out here in Guam.

This is a 230cc Buddy. One of the very rare GY6 230cc mods out there. We also set it up with the 10 inch "fattie" in the rear.

Here is what we have added to this monster:

Motor Swap to a short case GY6
Samurai Scoot 67mm Cylinder Kit
Samurai Scoot stroker crank
RRGS Variator
RRGS Clutch
Koso Clutch Bell
32mm carb
Two Brothers 250cc Carbon Fiber exhaust
ATR Universal Rear Hub
10 Inch "Fattie" Rim
205/30 R10 Tire
RRGS Custom Forks
KN-Kikaku Rear Shock

You said its a 'motor swap to a shortcase gy6'.
The Buddy *IS* a shortcase GY6, and looking at your pics,
did you mean longcase?

+1, I'd like to see the other side. I don't thinks that tire would clear the case using a short case. Did you have to Fab a custom mount? Looks really cool though. Look forward to updates.

Nope, it is a gy6 short case motor. The Buddy is "essentially" a GY6 with a few differences. One major difference is the rear spline. The only way for us to do the fattie upgrade was to switch out to a standard GY6 case.

Right, I'm just curious how the rear tire is set that far back if it's still a short case. Did you use a different mount to push it back like that?

That rear tire looks really close to the exhaust pipe. Does that cause issues?

The rear tire looks set back, because we wanted the dropped and stretched look. Just like the Honda Ruckus mod. We welded in new motor mounts in a different position to offset the rear tire and set the motor back further.

I originally wanted a long case so I could use a fatter tire. If I went with the long case then I wouldn't have been able to make this a 230cc. The long case wont take a 67mm piston. So this is the case we ended up with.

Sorry I couldn't take a picture of the new motor mount. I didn't want to take all the plastics off again to snap the shot...sorry.

No problem at all. I had a local fabricator work on the exhaust mount. They did an excellent job. I need to thank Scoot Da Vill (a local scooter performance shop) and Ghetto Fab (local fabricator). They took care of the exhaust for me. It is a Two Brothers brand, Kawasaki Ninja 250cc Carbon Fiber Exhaust. Sounds like a beast!

Heh, not a problem.

I'd never heard that the longcase couldn't do the 67mm top end, thats interesting. I'll be interested to hear how this holds together, most of the 230cc mods I've seen done don't last too long, unfortunately.

A 230cc mod on a GY6 is not common. The standard long or short case will not bore that large. 63mm is the maximum. You need to track down a special case for this mod. There are long and short cases available, they just have to be found.

This case has plenty of meat left to ensure reliability.

Check out the new front brake system. I used RRGS for the front end.

The forks are custom one off from the RRGS company in Taiwan.

The front rim is an Izawa forged rim.

The more pictures you show of your scooter; the more impressive the scooter looks – how does it run?
Cool looking variator, brakes/and shocks, both front and rear, the front looks like a motorcycle set-up. Acceleration must be great as slowing down, turning is questionable, but, it looks like your set up for straight line anyway.

What kind of speeds are you getting with your cool scooter?

I haven't tried to bring it up to top speed, but I am guessing it should be pushing the 90mph region. Maybe we'll try it on the drag track sometime. Until then it is just a street cruiser. Our friend Dan calls it a 7-11 bike. Perfect to cruise to the neighborhood 7-11.

Acceleration is very smooth. You're guess is right on the turning. You definitely need to put more weight in to the corners, as there is more rubber grabbing the road.

Parts were hard for me to get too. We started this project in March 2010. It took the rest of the year to get all the parts I needed. The darn rear hub took 3 months to get!

I've been planning this bike for almost 2 years, so I am quite happy it has all come together.

Yeah, we were thinking like a candy gold color. It definitely needs new paint. Just not sure what yet. Got any ideas?

This is one buddy I might kill for. But I don’t see a picture at all. I have looked up some pictures on the net to see the babe that you have. It really is a great bike and to have all so extra fitting that makes it extra special. Anyway I hope all those fittings make it extra special.

We didn't change gears on this bike, as we don't plan to race it. You can find GY6 gears on the Scooter Works website. NCY Gears. They don't fit on the Buddy GY6 though.
