Modifications on my brand new Buddy 125...

Post by Hugo »

I had an orange Buddy 125 delivered to my driveway two weeks ago, but Mother Nature in the Boston area has not allowed me to break it in. In the meantime, I tinkered a bit.
I had replaced the side panels and front fender in black (just to give it a racier look), installed NCY front forks and also hooked up a TinyTach within the front glove compartment.
Take a look...

Obviously an Oregon State scooter, except you live on the wrong coast? Looks good though.

Nice color scheme.
Good idea as well as to placement of the Tiny Tach. I've been wanting to get one and was contemplating drilling into the headset cover, but your placement is less intrusive.

I went over every area of the headset, but could not find a flush spot. The current placement has it aiming straight up at my riding position. I simply made two brackets out of aluminum and bolted everything in.

Now it just needs a black racing stripe to compliment the fender and panel mods. Also, the headlight bezel and horn cover...

+1 on the black racing stripe. And the black out of the chrome might be cool.

Anyone want to chime in on what your first mod to the engine on a Buddy125 would be and how much it would help performance?

The best inexpensive mod: Change your rollers/sliders, variator upgrade.
The bigger budget mod: Cylinder kit, larger head, rejet.
The full budget mod: All of the above, plus performance exhaust.
The cheapest, best mod not everyone agrees on: small or medium windscreen.

Results will vary! In general, you won't see more than a 5 or so MPH increase using any single method. Using them all will get you maybe 10 MPH extra on the top end. Some additional tuning could probably eke out a couple more. Acceleration off the line will depend on various transmission options. If you're hoping to get higher top speeds, though, you may have to sacrifice some acceleration.

Hugo, I believe you and I were Rattler owners at the same time, and I was impressed by your mod-ding skills then and now!

Enjoy your Buddy, I'm certain it will be unique and extra speedy when you are through massaging it!
