Thread about frosting/smoking blinker lens

Post by Hwarang »

Hi,

I'm looking for a thread about what paint to use to smoke/frost my turn signals. I think this seems like a simple job, but there were one or two comments I mentally bookmarked to check later. Well, I can't find the thread. Anyone remember the one I'm talking about? I think a particular paint was recommended.

I realize it's in here somewhere, but I looked through the stickied threads and used the search function, but did not find it.

Thanks in advance!

I don't remember one but here is a how to

Remove lens, apply light coat of black high temp paint to the inside of the lens. Repeat until desired darkness is reached

O you can lightly sand blast the inside for a clear frost, or layer clear coat

Painting the inside keeps the lens looking Glossy and makes it impossible to chip the paint

Sweet, thanks for the tip. Would a paint like this be ok?

I think you need to use yellow bulbs with smoked lenses, too.

Yep. I did this on my buddy 50. I used night shades which I picked up at advanced auto parts. Be careful cause the paint is super thin. Keep applying coats til you get the desired darkness. I recommend taking a step back between coats to check how dark it is getting. I also second the idea of using amber bulbs.

Oh, I didn't look - I assumed that the bulbs were amber because the lens is clear. The bulb in the upper turn signal, that is ... they will be removed and I'll just sliiiiide that stuff on down. I think.
