Fair price for a 2006 125cc Buddy
I am new to the scooter world and am only interested in buying a Genuine. I found one on craigslist for 1200. It's a 2006 125cc with 8500 miles- no accidents, hasn't been dropped and no complaints. It seems like a great deal if this person is being truthful.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks!!!

If it has been well maintained, that seems like a good price. Maybe see if you can have someone check it out for you first to be on the safe side.
There are others on the forum with way more miles on their scooters than I have (my '09 Buddy only has 4,100 miles on it), so they could probably tell you all the things to check on at that mileage to make sure they have been taken care of already.

I like to shop trade-in value when used. Here is Kelly Blue Book "good" trade-in value for that scoot. Yours has 1000 miles more than allowed for in this pricing which probably means nothing at all....

And here is retail "flawless" :

So anywhere between $1150 and $1750 depending on how hot you are for it.

$1200 is not a bad price in the LA area. I just sold a pink '06 Buddy 125 (with 1700 miles) for $1650. NoHo Scooters had an '06 orange that sold for more; it only had something like 100 miles on it. (That one came back crashed within a week. Sigh.)

Yeah, prices for used Buddys really fluctuate around the country.
Right now on Craigs List in Seattle, someone is selling a 50cc 2006 Buddy and asking $1,400 for it. They typically ask for over $2,200 for used 125cc around here.

Part of what's keeping the LA 125-150cc market down is an abundance of '09/carbureted Vespas being sold off at big discounts. Used Vespa prices are being pushed down, and it's having a domino effect.

There are some pretty decent Vespa discounts in Denver too. I actually have a 2006 Buddy with around 8,000 miles on the clock and one of the reasons I'll probably hang onto it is because I can't sell for what I think it's worth. Which incidentally, is around $1200. Discounts on new scoots along with a good number of low mileage scoots on the market can make it difficult to sell a relatively high mileage small frame.
Best guess is that price varies by location but I would think that in Denver, it would be a hard sell at $1200 when a much newer scoot would be available for just a little bit more.

Vespa of Sherman Oaks has an 08 and three 09 GTS250's -- all with only 3 miles?! Site said something about being lost in a factory...they're about $5K each.

In 2008 there was a huge scooter boom and many shops ran out of stock. Vespa Americas opened up a lot of new shops (especially in SoCal) and encouraged dealers to order heavily. (The less generous take on this is that they forced a ton of stock down dealers' throats.) The market then fell apart in '09 and '10. So there are huge overstocks, many of which are coming from dealers that have closed over the past couple of years.Edwub wrote:why is that?ericalm wrote:Part of what's keeping the LA 125-150cc market down is an abundance of '09/carbureted Vespas being sold off at big discounts. Locally, both VSO and Vespa DTLA have clearance '09s. Some of these came in from closures on the other side of the country. There are also a lot of "scratched and dents" being sold off at discount. VSO's owner has historically bought everything they could get their hands on; he was filling storage containers with scooters in '09 and may still be taking on a lot that other dealers can't get rid of. They're the top shop in the country now, but everything is relative; many other shops are still struggling.

Route 66 in Marina Del Rey just got a bunch of new old stock Vespas, and they aren't even a Vespa dealership!ericalm wrote:So there are huge overstocks, many of which are coming from dealers that have closed over the past couple of years.

Probably came from an auction. All 2009 or earlier. Wonder what they're priced at? Local dealers have (mostly '09) carbureted LX150s for $3400 or less. The new '07 and '08 ones are kind of unusual since demand was so high then. Wonder what happened there…desmolicious wrote:Route 66 in Marina Del Rey just got a bunch of new old stock Vespas, and they aren't even a Vespa dealership!ericalm wrote:So there are huge overstocks, many of which are coming from dealers that have closed over the past couple of years.
