How much do used Buddy engines sell for?

Post by mhardgrove »

So, in a few days I will finally start putting my scooter back together after shipping it in boxes halfway across the country, but my wife refuses to let me "tinker" with the motor. Seeing that the engine has right at 500 miles I can't say I blame her as I'm wanting to kit the 125 to 161. Anyone know how much I should offer for a used 125? I'm looking for one with less than 5000 miles (hopefully I can snag one with less than 1000 miles). I plan to keep the original as a spare in case my "tinkering" bites me in the ass.

I'm in Denver and haven't contacted Sportique yet to ask about a salvage engines, and I don't want to offer too little or too much. Also, will a stock 150 engine hook right up or are there any differences that would prevent installing? Thanks all!

I'd say $300-$400 for a totaled Buddy with an intact engine. I believe the salvage value of my Stella 4T was $500.

A decent Taiwanese GY6 goes for about $350-$400 bucks, so somewhere in that ballpark is about right.

Or you can just buy a new 180cc engine thats ready to go: http://www.monstergy6.com/product_motors.htm

Not sure if it'll fit the Buddy, but it is an GY6 engine.

ANY engine can fit in ANY bike!! It just depends how creative you want to be and how much fabrication you're willing to take. Just look at those Honda Ruckus nutters who are shoving 150 and even 250cc engines in their scoots!

I've got a Vespa GTS 250 engine in my Buddy right now, like he said. Any engine can fit anywhere :)
