Expected mileage on a Buddy 150?

Post by westniner »

I've had my Italia 150 (Sophia) for 6 months now and ride her every day. She has just rolled over 4000 miles and so has been given her third scheduled service. With proper care and maintenance and regular servicing how many miles can I expect to get out of her?

Cheers.

MB member BoneGirl put 40,000 miles on her 125 in about three years, I think. There are many 20,000+ members here too, so the question is more:

How long do you want to keep it?

Things that are, umm, less than good for your Buddy:
1. No maintenance (read: regular oil changes, crank and gear)
2. Regular all day high speed runs, or long distance, high temp runs
3. Running into things and other things I can't think of at the moment.

Was hoping to keep her going for about three years and then upgrade.

Unless you put extraordinary miles on it, that's just getting broken in!

Had mine for 3 years now with 23,000 miles. Still runs excellent. Probably better than ever.
Just take care of her, and she'll take care of you.

With proper maintenance, the engine will last much longer than most people expect.
The things that wear out (generally) are...
Tires.
CVT parts. (Rollers, belts, clutches.)
Seats.
Suspension parts.

We've had 3 Buddys so far,
A 125 with 40k +
A 125/161 with 22k+ (with nothing but abuse since the 161 kit at 15k)
And a 150 with 25k+.

Zero engine problems.

You're at a 8000 mile per year pace, 3 years (24,000 miles) should be no problem based on my experience.

 That's one I wouldn't have thought of, but makes perfect sense.

Long haul....

Post by BoneGirl »

I have 26,710 on my BlackJack in a little over 2 years and going strong. Lagerhead is right in what wears out (since he's the one doing all the work on The Pinkster).

I have had a time of it with clutches  but that's a whole nuther story....

Proper and timely maintenance is a big part of longevity.
Also, keep it pretty close to stock. Adding performance modifications is great of you know what you're getting into and are ready to sacrifice some longevity or do more frequent maintenance. But doing it then riding the scooter at its limits or beyond them wears parts out a lot faster.

Also: Don't crash.

Oil change every 3 -4,000 miles with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. In order of preference: 5W30 (getting harder to find) or 10W30 (or 40)

These machines should last indefinitely. There is no reason for it not too.
Like any Car, or Airplane, or Motorcycle, or Scooter.....there is no part that cannot be replaced.

With good maintenance especially, Synthetic Oil, Routine checking of various things, They will last as long as you can maintain them.

There are many 1920 & 30 airplanes at air shows, there are lots of 1920 and 1930 cars that run very well, even as daily drivers.

There are tons of old motorcycles that are lovingly and proudly driven around all the time. the key words here are LOVINGLY maintained.

I have even seen an OLD Vespa (Pre P series) from the 1960s- with over 90 Thousand miles on it.

The things that fall apart due to poor design are a different matter, (Old Harley Davidsons come to mind Pre EVO Engines) but for a machine that was well designed in the first place, there is no limit.

Hi Bonegirl,

Your profile picture doesn't show a windshield on your scooter. Do you always ride with no windshield?

If so, kudos to you!....I tried it for a while and I thought 50+ mph was brutal. :)

I recently heard of (and saw the odometer of) a Buddy 125 that's topped 40K in about a year. The owners rides all the time, often as much as 250 miles a day.
