Its gonna cost a lot to transport the scoot from continent to continent, could cost as much as your scoot or more. You'll also have to get Carnet Insurance to bring a vehicle into many countries, which will cost as much if not more then your scoot.

Keep it simple stupid is my advise along with less is more.
I was assuming he wasn't doing the WHOLE tour at once, but rather doing it in pieces, starting with the US.

But DaBinChe is probably right about your road time still. Esp since you should break every 2-4 hours, for you benefit AND the scoot's.

Is there a planned route available online, so we can plan to offer hospitality, etc.? I'm still not seeing one.

I went and looked for anything online, so I could link and share with my club and friends on Facebook... not really anything up yet. I assume there will be very soon if Kemy is leaving this week, or has left already.

Has he? His web site still says that he "will" be starting this trip on Jan. 1, and that they're "currently in the planning phase". Has he even started it?

I searched online for any kind of announcement about this tour, and other than the above statement that he's going to do it, this thread, and Philip McCaleb's mention in his New Year message: nothing. Posted route? None. I've seen covert military operations that were better publicized than this.

Frankly, the haste with which this tour has been thrown together (as of 7 weeks ago he was expecting to hit all the capitals of the US, then Canada, Europe, and Asia, all this year) and the apparent lack of financial or logistical support for an undertaking this big (he was trying to figure out what scooter he could afford, and his support crew is going to be AAA membership) and his complete inexperience (not having a scooter yet, not knowing that you can't ride on snow)... all adds up to me just worrying about him.

I'm actually pretty well-taken-care-of in the Hugs department, but thanks for asking.

If Kemy needs a place to stay on his way to Lansing MI (whenever that might be happening), he's welcome to stay at my place, and if possible I'll scooter-escort him to the capital. Or give him turn-by-turn directions from/to the Ohio and Indiana borders, because I can do that as well. Even if he just stops long enough for a hug, I'm up for that. I'll do what I can to help him do this.

But I'm far more impressed by actions than by intentions. So at this point, I'm still waiting.

Well, Sportique is the biggest Vespa/Genuine dealer here, and they have lots of fans. I just bought a Buddy myself, and enjoy it, but I haven't been on it for hours yet.

I live very close to the Capital in Denver, and I'm sure lots of people would come support if you keep us posted.

As for the backpack issue, I'll throw my .02 cents in and agree that riding with a pack on is a bad idea. Fatigue and stress on the back from a seated position is not a good combo. It will do you some damage and wear you out. I've ridden cross country several times on a full size motorcycle, but will be doing it for the first time on a scooter this summer with a good friend to Amerivespa. And, I've found that strapping gear to the bike makes the ride alot easier.

One thing to consider is taking a few "day trips" over 100 miles every time you get a major configuration of gear figured out to test it. Just a quick 8 hour tour of something local just to see how the configuration holds up. If you need to make alterations, it's easier after a quick trip than when you're already on the road to the grand adventure and are short on resources, tools or time.

Although, I personally would not go long distance on anything but a manual shift bike, but that's a personal preference  You can't go wrong with a Buddy 150
Hey thanks for the input Neotrotsky!

I got the Buddy 150 and it is awesome. Its got the power and the space I need for making this journey. I pretty much broke it on my way down to Key West and now it has over 2000 miles on it. We're in New Orleans right now and it has been such an epic adventure so far! :D

I tried different configurations and found that riding with my bag on my back works best for me. I don't feel the weight of the bag when I'm seated on the scooter and its strapped tight enough to balance perfectly plus it provides a great backrest for those long rides lol.

No need for bungees, the bag is big enough to just sit right in place upright. Just make sure the heaviest cargo is in the bottom of the bag.

Hey thanks for the advice DaBinChe! :D

I totally agree that less is more and am doing my best to keep things simple.

There have been a few changes to the tour's route, I won't be trying to visit all 50 state capitals, but I'm still going to see as many states as possible. I've actually been able to keep an average speed of 45mph with no problem. Also, I was pretty much traveling 150-200 miles everyday for the past week and enjoyed that pacing but decided to travel less miles though. That way I could keep moving but still have time to enjoy my destinations.

I hoping to get some sponsorship that will allow me to transport the scooter abroad for little or no cost but we'll see how that works out as the tour progresses.

I am planning to do the whole tour in one shot. I basically have this yearlong window of opportunity and I'm going to make the most of it! :D

Hey TVB!

Thank you very much for trying to follow the tour from the very beginning. There were a few delays in the final preparation stage, which caused delays in the departure date and so on but now everything is underway and going phenomenally well! I've already scooted over 2000 miles through cities, back road highways plus I've already scooted through heat, cold and rain. I know I'm not a pro scooter rider yet but I'm doing pretty well so far and feeling like I was meant to be a scooter rider ;D

Many things have changed in the planning process of this tour, which is to be expected when one is planning anything. However, my intentions remain the same, my determination to succeed is greater than ever and I have even more support than I had before. So all in all there is no need to worry about me because I'm not worried lol

Thanks again for the support my friend! :D

PS. there's a site for the tour now and I'll be updating it as things change http://genuinekindnesstour.com/

So you have a red Buddy 150? Phil hooked you up. Keep those tires inflated right, and your head on a swivel. It could really use an oil change too. If you dont already have a list of Genuine dealers along your path get one. Im sure they would hook you up with some services. Be safe and spread that love Kemy!

After visiting 22 states and 2 countries, I've has made it back to Miami and we (U R Awesome Inc.) are proud to announce that our 2012 World Kindness Tour was an AWESOME success thanks to scooterist like YOU!!

Now that I'm not traveling so much, I finally have time to reply on the message boards and thank you all for your support. I really couldn't have done this tour with out you guys and gals. From the advice to the words of encouragement and jokes I appreciate every bit of effort each of you have put into this journey.

Obviously the tour's route changed tremendously and even ended sooner than I originally planned but I think it worked out exactly as it needed to. I'm very grateful for the opportunities that The Genuine Scooter Company and Modern Buddy created during this adventure. This trip truly changed my life in more ways than I can express. Experiencing so much kindness from people like yourselves has inspired me to take my life & profession to the level.

My and U R Awesome's mission remains to spread the ideals of love, compassion, and awesomeness throughout the world, in order to help people discover and maximize their potential while empowering them to do the same for others. However, we have shifted our focus from Relief Drives and 1-for-1 t-shirts to accomplishing our mission by empowering youth through dialogue and action.

From here on out, we will be utilizing our resources to present seminars at schools and community centers around the world to help youth embrace their awesomeness while empowering them to be kinder to themselves, others and the environment!

So, if you thought we were awesome before, wait to see what we have in store for our 2013 World Kindness Tour. That’s right, were keeping the kindness in motion and plan to do things way bigger than we’ve done in the past! :D

Please stay tuned to our Site http://URAwesome.org and Facebook Page http://Facebook.com/URAwesomeInc for more updates as we get closer to 2012 and prepare yourself for a whole ‘nother year of AWESOMENESS!

Again, I/We would like to extend a very special THANK YOU to every single one of you out there who helped us make our 2012 tour possible especially the Genuine Scooter Company. We greatly appreciate all of your support and look forward to seeing you in 2013 if not sooner. :D

PS. Let me know if you are interested in helping us connect to schools in your area.
