High-Compression Spring?

Post by Hwarang »

Hi, there. Noob Q!

http://www.scooterworks.com/Performance ... P5598.aspx

This Prima Pipe kit came with a high-compression spring. What is that? What effect does it have? Is there a downside? I cannot find a good explanation on t3h g00gler?

Any explanation or tutorial link would be most welcome.

Thanks!

As far as I know it increases the idle speed at which the clutch engages. Gives you a bit more off the line speed.

Yep. The stock spring will engage the clutch at XXRPM's.
Adding a stiffer spring will increase the RPM's the clutch engages by different amount. I run the yellow spring which increases this by 1500 RPM's. I think the red one is a 2K increase.

^^^^So what do you think of the 1500 spring? And what is stock spring?

It is hard to get an answer on what rpm the stock spring is. Best info I've got so far is from Scooterworks who offered: The clutch engagement is @ 3800 rpms +/- 300 and lock up is at 5100 rpm +/- 400.

Check out this thread: topic21591.html

I've run the 1500rpm spring for years as part of the Dr. Pulley Stage 1 Performance kit and loved it. Definitely more pop off the line. I've been back to a stock setup for a month or two now which is great but much slower off the line. I am likely going back to the DP mod setup soon (maybe this week) if for nothing else than just so I can do another comparison to stock.

I like it. At first, I had the 1500 main spring and 1500 rpm pill springs in the stock clutch. I didn't like the high revs off the line so much.

I now run the NCY racing clutch with the springs it ships with plus the ventilated NCY clutch bell, a 1500 rpm main spring and the Dr. Pulley variator with 12 gram sliders.

Depends on your model. If you have the Buddy 125, stock weight is 11g.
