A major selling point for bringing a third scooter top the house was that I was getting it for free. When I started talking about plans for my rebuild and needing to buy parts, my wife said, "I thought you said this wasn't going to cost anything!" No, I said I wasn't paying anything for it. Not the same thing!

Re: Update: Not who I thought I was when last I posted
Oh, cool! Yes; Josephine and I shot that one slow Saturday morning. We had a lot of local customers say much the same thing; we would tell them that we were overjoyed to change the oil for them, given it was one of the highest-profit services we offered. :) But that it was indeed dead stupid-simple, and that everyone who worked at the shop changed their own.Rob wrote:And if memory serves me correctly, didn't you shoot a video of Josephine demonstrating how to change the oil on a Buddy? Well, I think it was a Buddy.
Anyway, I showed that to my wife, who has absolutely zero mechanical aptitude, and she was able to change the oil on our scoot in about 15 minutes.
Now that I have this 30-mile commute, I'm doing it every month, and have it down to about 11 minutes (including the opening of the beer, after). :)

Just wanted to point out that there's free motorscooter (and, yeah, motorcycle...whatever...) parking just a block up from the Manhattan Beach pier (Ocean Dr, just south off MB Blvd). Likewise in the parking structures on either side of Highland Av, on 12th St.JohnnyScoots wrote:I'm Prentice. Stella 2T. Single-Speed Bike. Los Angeles Galaxy. That sums me up along with my uncanny desire to name everything Jack Nicholson.
The South Bay Scooter Club has monthly rides on the first Saturday of each month, no make/model restrictions but mostly oriented toward 125cc+ bikes.
There's also a Long Beach Area Scooter Group with a Meetup.com page. It's a bit of a ride to get out that way on surface streets, but do-able.

Sounds good -- the LA group is in easy Burgman range, but a bit of a reach for the S150 or a Stella. Not impossible, but getting there would be half the fun (and at least half of the overall time in the saddle)! Might have to commandeer the Young Lady in Question's truck for that...ericalm wrote: And you should both come out to Swerve n Curve in August! And Swerve & Curve is going to be practically next door! I expect to be there.

Yes, it is! Be sure to check out "Bruce's Beach" on 27th and Highland. It's a little known park, grassy and green with trees and benches.....and a beautiful ocean view. If I worked where you are, it'd be my private getaway to take a bagged lunch to (that is, if you ever get bored of the beach and the pier or want some more privacy!)Rusty J wrote:That work location is amazing! Reviving a long dormant thread...since I've posted enough here to warrant a real life 'hello'
Real Name: Russell
Current favorite scooting music: The Pillows, and noodles
I spend lots of time doing I.T. stuff for work, here in sunny San Diego.
I spend most of my time on the ModernVespa Scooter tag San Diego thread, tagging local San Diego spots.
This is my 2-stroke Stella Atomic Fireball, after having the famous 'Robot' at Vespa Motorsport rebuild the engine with a Malossi 166 cylinder kit, italian bearings and other innards.

I picked this pic of me as it was the gateway to me getting my Buddy 125. More importantly, I don't make this face when riding at home.

I'm not sure if you're serious, but if you are be careful what sort of training you get. Day to day operations/support tasks are largely outsourced to, oh other places, especially in large business. It has been a very good 15 years for me, but I don't know if I would recommend it to someone now.Drum Pro wrote:Here is a pic I took last year. I also play drums almost everyday but now I kinda want to change jobs to maybe something away from music like accountant or start classes in IT.....

My name is Trisha, age 27, and I live in South Boston, MA with my husband and dog. I work for Boston University and commute the 5ish miles each morning and evening. I like my job, but the commute is the added bonus! After doing it for so many years, I can't imagine having to drive to work. I always tell my co-workers (especially on frigid days) that I am the most awake person than anyone in the office after my rides! I dread the day of the first snowfall or city salting that puts me back on the T.
I am on a couple of Meetup groups for scooters (Meetup.com). I am very mechanically ignorant, so even when I come on these forums to get advice, it is hard for me to even understand what people are talking about.

I am in real life a somewhat retired litigation attorney. I've spent the last 40 years in courtrooms in Texas and in 28 other states. My son opened his own practice recently and I am of counsel to his firm. I've been married 46 years and my wife and I are awaiting our first grandchild this Spring. I've had a number of exciting hobbies in my life and riding scoots is a great activity that keeps me sharp.

That's me up in Duane Peters' grill last December in Weinheim Germany. I'm a professional brewer (currently in project engineering).
I dig bikes and punk rock. Spend a lot of time, blood, and money on both. I'm a grouchy old married bastard, and I'm happy with that.
