These Are The Voyages... To Boldly Go!
So I have decided to trek into other counties in Missouri, and when I do to make a bit of a deal about it. So here I go. I forgot to bring my phone, so i got no pictures! So I did what I could and here it is!
So today I went for a ride, a ride with a mission, to boldly leave St. Louis County and to go to Jefferson County, and return safely! A 26.6 mile trip, not including the miles from my house to Wally World.
As you can sort of see I took I255 to I55-S. I past right past Arnold, like a bat out of hell, and got off at the Imperial exit. Not wanting to take the interstate back I took the state highway 61/67.
At the Imperial exit I realized that I had not eaten, and if I did not I would surely die! So I got two tacos from jack in the box! I live to tell!
Because I did not go home via the interstate, what fun would that have been, I took main street to the state hw. There were a few officers handing out railroad crossing safety stuff, and I got a free key chain. I took the left on 61/67 and my voyage home began!
Wal-Mart is where I started recording my voyage and it is where I finished it. When I was done riding I bought five pounds of the most AMAZING ground beef to cook up for snacks and dinners.
If you can't see the pics let me know and I will try again!
It was fun and am thinking about a trip down to the Cape in a week or so!

Missouri, the Show-Me Frontier....
(trumpet fanfare)
These are the voyages of Captain Don.
His ongoing mission: To explore strange new counties; to see out new land, new civilizations; to boldly go where he's never scooted before.
(fake theremin and operatic aria)
Congratulations: You just scooted a marathon.A 26.6 mile trip, not including the miles from my house to Wally World.
Enjoy your exploration.
Ahead, full impulse.

Entertaining tale -- and a reminder that it really is all relative!
I can remember when a 75-mile round trip to Pasadena (California) on my 150cc '74 Vespa constituted an epic journey through alien territory -- and for a teen whose previous transportation was literally a moped, and a bicycle before that, it WAS!
For me, that was more than 25 years ago. Since then, I've gotten to where I'll do twice that on a (much newer!) 150cc for fun every weekend, and have covered 1500 miles and three states over a holiday weekend on my Burgman 650.
Thank you for reminding me that no matter how far you ride, it really IS an adventure, and of the kid I used to be.

PeteH, I would love to try to get together with anyone local for a ride.
I really should post the food too.
Joplin is FAR FAR away, but I wont say never!
The voyage to Cape Girardeau MO is going to be an over 200 mile trip... 1500 miles in a holiday weekend sounds scary!
Well, I am never going to run in a marathon!
You know the ride to work and back is a bit longer, but it feels so short because I do it every day...

200 miles on a smallframe scooter is actually a pretty decent distance.
The 1500 miles in my case were all superslab, making miles rather than enjoying the scenery. With a reliable bike that cruises at 75 MPH and tops out at 110, it's just a couple of very long and tiring days not quite back-to-back.
And I know what you mean about familiarity seeming to shorten commutes!

You're in the beginning stages of the "touring/cruising" virus. Once you get started, you're doomed to expanded ranges, challenging twisties, continual search for the next scenic ride, and an assortment of other undefined symptoms.
Caution: This disease often leads to an intense desire to expand your stable of 2 wheel rides.
