Scooter Backpack for Grocery Shopping..etc.

Post by slbravo »

Hi Ya'll!

Transitioning lifestyles....my scooter will be my main mode of transportation. I'm looking for something bigger than a regular backpack that I can use when I shop for groceries, something that will hold a bag and half...maybe two bags of groceries...suggestions...what do you all do?

simple rucksack or backpack, topcase for the light stuff, one bag underneath and 1 on the bag hook :P.

Remember that you don't have to get 6 months of groceries at a time.

I have a Chrome bag for running errands. They make them in different sizes but i found the medium one to always have been sufficient for groceries and a change of clothes on the days i went to yoga. They look great and are made well, and i like that the buckle across the front of your chest is made from a seatbelt.

Cool thanks!! I've heard about these..I have a regular backpack...I can usually get almost all my groceries in...including putting some stuff under the seat...but I've had trips where I have to make two runs.

I have the chrome Mini-Metro, and it's a perfect laptop bag even for my massive Vaio (17" and not shy about it's thickness... given what it's for I really couldn't go much smaller at the time. Just before they were cramming i7's in ultrabooks). And there's still room for the charger, my tablet, a Tascam field recorder and a few bits. And that's the smallest one!

But, for groceries Chrome does make a more fitting bag that doesn't get slung diagonally across the back and may work for more square/cylinder shaped objects:

It's called the Chrome "Ivan" and it's a roll top military bag. About $190 ( ) but Chrome stuff is pretty well built. The largest Chrome messenger bags may have it beat on sheer capacity, but for comfort and ease of packing, this may be the way to go

I manage transporting groceries through a combination of the pet carrier (under the seat), a milk crate on my rear rack, an over-the-shoulder bag resting on the seat behind me, and a plastic grocery bag or two hanging from the hook under the speedometer. I have a daypack that I've used occasionally, but rarely needed it.

I actually went with the Osprey Metron 25 because the 35 was too big.

The 35 is HUGE and expandable. The quality is amazing, as are all the details and adjustments.

But just for groceries? Toss a milk crate on the rear rack, buy a bungee net and get a big, cheap rucksack. You probably don't need some fashionable, expensive stuff for hauling. Just something sturdy and comfortable enough to wear home.

I carry a Chico bag with me much of the time—nylon that compresses into a tiny pouch. They have a 26L duffel for $30:

If you need something sturdier, there are big surplus backpacks like this one for only $15:

This 45L pack is humongous and only $26:

I hang all the light stuff on the bag hook and hold it with my feet. If you double bag its pretty safe. I fill the pet carrier with heavy stuff. I live a 1/4 mile from the store. I refuse to install a top case, too ugly.

For storing heavier stuff, I took some nylon straps, and stitched them onto the lower sides of a backpack on one end, and velcro on the other end. I run the straps together with the seat up, then close the seat. Makes for good extra storage without having to wear a backpack while riding, or trying to keep things on the floorboard.

Those chrome bags look pretty nice...

Thinking about a Ruck sack, but wanted something waterproof in case something spills or I get caught in the rain...which shouldn't be a big problem in Phoenix...but you never know...thanks for the input everyone
