Some of my metal compoennets are rusting pretty bad. Any idea what I can do to remove/cover up the rust?

I was told my by shop that a spray "wax and wipe" type product will help protect the chrome. He said it'd be good to use all over the bike, but especially on the chrome.

I got some and intend to give my bike a good once over sometime this week.

I noticed some rust on my shiny parts. Thats strange because I live in Los Angeles.

I'll look into later today, and post some ideas.

I've had some luck with auto paste wax, Meguiars I think, on rust prone Raleigh bicycle parts. I need to do something too, my 3 week old rear rack (new style) has some rust spots, and I swear that the two black attachment bolts started rusting as soon as I tightened them up. The front rack w/ silver bolts-stainless?-went on yesterday. If it ever rains again in Baltimore, I'll let you know how it works.

I'm enjoying the dry weather, I rode close to 100 miles this weekend.

No complaints, though, you're right, it has been fine riding weather.

The car restoration folks will tell you to hit the rust spots with some light steel wool to remove them. I'd take your parts off the scoot, knock off the rust, and then perhaps take them to a chrome place and have them re-chromed. Shouldn't cost much or take long, and you'll have a better plating job. Looks like the Genuine chrome accessories weren't chromed with a thick enough plate.

I've avoided rust altogether using Armor All on all my bikes. My '87 Virgo which I bought new, still looks new and Armor All is the only thing I use for that kind of cleaning and wipedowns.

But from the pic you showed, just an sos pad until you see chrome without any blemishes and then spray and wipe the Armor All original formula and you should be fine.

Simichrome polish is a really good product and available through most cycle shops. If you are parking your scoot outdoors overnight or while you are at work, I think a cover is also a good idea.
