63 mph on flat road. Of course, I have done a bit of work.

De-restrict ( exhaust, variator and the intake tube in the air box. )
Prima Pipe
70 CC kit
rejet the carb..I forget what is in it now, something around 100
6.5 gram rollers.

Done in the following order.
1 derestrict exhaust and variator

2 70 cc kit

3 pipe (results where ok but not as good as expected) very little difference between after adding the pipe, except that it sounded really good.
lots of hesitation round 15-20 mph

4 replace rollers - helped with hesitation, might still consider going lighter

5 de-restrict air box, wow did it get loud :) running very lean, be carfeful

6 increase jet size in carb. That really did the ticket. No hesitation at all.

It now holds its own with the 125s.

Was it worth it, who knows, but it keeps the geeky engineer in me happy.

Had mine up to 52 on the speedo so I guess that's about 45. Took a while to get there though and I have a windshield. If I don't upgrade next spring it will have a 70cc kit on it.

Best I've gotten is about 52 (indicated). Derestricted, no mods.

How's your gas mileage now? I'm only curious because when I kitted my Mojito50 gas mileage dropped by about 30%.

*Stupid question alert*

I'm wondering if it's okay to ask how to desrestrict a buddy? I'm looking for a buddy purchase and I'm interested in the 50cc to get just around 40-45 mph.

Do you pay someone or something?

Instructions on how to derestrict a Buddy 50 come with the Buddy. It consists of the restriction in the exhaust and the washer in the variator. Another common modification is to close off the air injector on the muffler. Your top speed will depend on your altitude. Over 5000' with hills and you may need to install a 70cc kit ($200 for the kit) and a new variator ($130 parts) to be happy.

Just got my Buddy on Saturday. It was already derestricted when I got it.

So far, I've gotten it around 50, but I don't know if I want to go any faster than that!! I rode it to work the first time today. LOVIN' IT!

I get 35mpg with my Malaguti (now has 70cc w/ a whole pile of bits to go with it). It might be bad in the economy, but you have to pay to go fast. There isnt a 150 Ive raced that can keep up. My BV200 gets spanked by it to 60mph.

On a flat road, wind free day, I can cruise a solid 65. I dont know what the absolute top speed is right now as my calibrated speedo shot craps on me before I installed the overrange kit. It is a rocket to 50mph...

BTW, the Buddy 50 has the same tuning potential as both the Malaguti, Buddy 50, and Vino have the same engine family (minarelli/Yamaha)
