Scooter Cannonball [Cannonball Alumni]

Post by BuddyRaton »

This is a repost from Maroy on our sister site MV
http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic115838

]If you are a Cannonball Alumni a new thread has been started to finalize the routes and dates.

http://www.scootercannonball.com/forum/ ... =39&t=2482

This is just for the Cannonball Alumni. I am posting here because the Scooter Cannonball forum gets pretty quiet sometimes and new posts can be easy to miss..

If you are not a Cannonball Alumni do not follow the link above, it will just leave you disappointed.

Once the dates and the generic routes has been selected, the discussion will move back to the public forums.[/quote]

I just read that thread yesterday. They both sound awesome, I posted my thoughts on the SCBR forum. We'll have to see what everyone else feels. I may have my old man riding as support for me. I also think I can convince Lokky (with minimal effort) to run it this time around.

Not definite yet, but very likely I'll throw my name in the running again.

That's pretty much the idea. In some states aux tanks are not legal so it doesn't hurt to be a little stealthy!

That particular tank has run every CBR. I bought from a guy that bought it from a guy. I bought it with the promise that if I don't use it to run CBR 2014 I will sell it to someone that will.

One of those dumb things that is kinda cool!

 Holy cow! Is that the tank JD ran on the first Cannonball in 2004? I rode a few thousand miles behind that tank! If you don't mind me asking, who had it in 2006?

Oh I don't mind you asking...but I don't know the answer! I really should track down the history and at a minimum sharpie it onto the tank!

that fuel tank is turning into the Stanley Cup of cannonball! It should go to the winner each time with their name, scooter make and model, and hometown engraved.

Right now it's limited only to alumni. Once they've logged in and voted, the overall route should be hashed out and decided in the next few days. In the meantime if you're interested in riding or offering support, make a username and feel free to check on the "general 2014" forum discussion. Once we've voted on the overall route we will work on the meat and potatoes for each leg, including hotels, checkpoints, and what not.

John, can you post where I can get a tank like yours? Or if anyone has rigged a 2 or 3 gallon tank to their scoot? I'm tinkering with the idea of running an aux tank from the topcase or milk crate and splicing it into the main tank. Last resort is carrying a 3 gallon red can on the floor, but that looks cumbersome.

Tour Tank. Look at their Products page. They have just about everything for mounting and connecting an auxillary gas tank.

Remember that of you use such a thing to extend the Buddy's range, you should still stop every 100 miles or couple hours to let the engine cool. This is essential!

Under normal riding situations, the engine doesn't need it because you will have to stop for gas at some point. But running that hot from hard/WOT riding for up to three times as long as the original tank would allow can cause some serious damage.

I'm considering some type of flat pack gas can like a Rotopax, depending on if the cheap racks available for the helix can hold the weight.
