I don't typically ride through any of those areas unless I'm heading north to visit my daughter. The problem is I'm sure there are more to come.

In the SUV I have an Escort radar detector that specifically recognizes red light cams. I'm guessing this will be the case (with an update?) for the speed cams as well. I might have to find a way to mount this to the bikes.

The small town just North of my has a photo radar speed trap set up somewhere on a major route every day. They have a contract with some company in Texas who provides the van and operator, even mails the citations. They hand out hundreds of citations a day. Everybody hates it, but the town makes money off of it and obviously intends to keep it up.

This is where I'd normally say "If you're obeying the law, you have nothing to fear" but even I'm cynical enough to know these things are just cash-printing machines for the city. I've been nailed twice by red-light cameras in Maywood, and everyone I know tells me I ride/drive like a total pansy. A lot of them have shortened yellow lights to trap you, and it's just not safe to screech to a stop (especially with 30-year-old Vespa 8" wheel drum brakes).

That said, I was glad they are trying to put them in school zones, my 9-year old daughter will be walking to school soon and literally, 1 out of 10 drivers doesn't even slow down for stop signs in my neighborhood, and people drive 40 in 25 zones. Someday I'm just going to pick a random intersection and hide a go-pro all day, it's amazing, lots of people whip by and their brake lights don't even flash. I don't know why cops don't just sit around and hand out tickets all day.

Just one of the many reasons I dislike going to Chicago. Keep it up and no one will be left.

I'll still come as long as they have the swear detectors near the public toilets. I just hate using the 3 shells.

If the "company" in question is the same as the one in Jersey, those cameras might not be around for much longer.

This editorial doesn't even touch on the legal right turns that have been made, but you still get a ticket, or even emergency vehicles that have been sent tickets for doing their job (<-- that's just down right laughable).

I ONLY get that reference because I just listened to the "How Did This Get Made" podcast making fun of that movie, but nicely played!

Chicago's not like that though. In Chicago, they'd switch to three shells because the mayor's buddy is a shell contractor, but then they'd just abandon it after all the big checks cleared.
