Hello BuddyLand;

While there may have been past subjects on this question..I would be grateful to know your top speed on level road that you attained while riding your Buddy 150 and or Buddy 170i.


I ask four things.............

1. Speedometer reading.
2. Actual speed if you happen to know how far off your speedometer is from actual speed.
3. Your weight, because I imagine someone lighter can attain higher speeds.
4. Is your scooter a 150 or 170i

I have a 170i and the fastest road I take is 45mph so please keep in mind I have yet to take it above that. I have tested and my BMP is 10% higher than actual. So when I am reading 25mph I'm actually going 22-23mph. When showing 40mph I'm actually going 36mph. I've tested this with GPS and had my husband drive behind me to get the readings.

I've taken my scooter showing about 58mph so actually going about 52-53mph. Again I was speeding as it was (but going with the flow) on a 45mph road. I had zero trouble keeping up and felt I could have given it more if I had to. Straight road with a very small incline at that point.

I've been on that road a bunch and have been easily able to pass a car going 40mph or slower.

With all my gear I'm going to guess I weight about 120-130 or so? (I'm about 115-120 w/o gear).

- 73 bmph
- est. 65 mph, as bmph are typically 10% overrated against my GPS
- 240 lbs
- stock Buddy 150

This was on a slight downhill grade, maybe a bit of tailwind (at least no significant headwind), fairly cool day so the engine was running strong.

I did this for a minute or two, then something in my lizard brain reminded me I had J-rated 10" tires, and what the hell was I thinking, and I backed off a wee bit.

I've had the speedometer up to about 74 on a downhill grade but didn't have GPS at the time.

More recently, I've hit GPS 61 mph when my speedo read about 68. That was on the flats in warm weather and I weigh anywhere from 168 to 178 depending on whether Blue Bell has had some good ice cream flavors at the local supermarket.

My scooter had about 39K miles when I noted those speeds on the flats.

59.6 mph GPS confirmed on my 170i. Haven't checked my 150 Blackjack but my seat of the pants feeling is that it's just a wee bit faster than the 170i. Must be that Prima performance exhaust! I'm 5' 11" and dripping wet I weigh 170 lbs.

I'm pretty much in line with Pete and Toc on our 150. GPS 63 or so on a flat road, takes a while to top it out but it will do it. Downhill, it's a test of nerves. I've seen 70+ GPS on a long downhill, sniffing the bumper of a 911 in front of me. One pothole or 2x4 and it's nighty-night.

I go 6'2, 210 in gear. Stock (but jetted) 150, with a windshield.

On a slight incline (~120ft per mile), and it took a while to get her to top speed. :P

1. 69bmph
2. 61.29mph according to GPS
3. 145lb
4. Stock 170i

This "how fast can a Buddy go downhill" stuff is somewhat open ended. It depends on the steepness of the hill. They go even faster if you drop them off a cliff .

(It turns out that a Buddy is just as fast as a Suzuki Hayabusa when compared falling straight down.)

4. 150 Blackjack with Prima exhaust and a windshield.

63-65 is fairly easy to obtain. It took time to get up to 68, but I couldn't seem to push it faster, even while ducking my head. But I also ran out of free highway to keep trying.

1. 65 mph indicated level ground, cool day, no wind.
2. I weigh 200 lbs.
3. 2007 Blur 150
4. 4400 feet above seal level

On a 150 mile ride yesterday, my wife hit the rev limiter at an indicated 75 mph oh her Buddy 150. If I had to guess I'd say it was around 65 actual. But she's maybe 130 lbs all geared up.

I hit the limiter on the Aprilia at an indicated 70 (63mph gps) while my friend sailed by me on his lightly modified 09 Stella... I need a faster scooter.

74 BMP or around 65 GPS is typical. As far as the Blue Bell, try the banana pudding....I had to stop buying it.

Rev limiter? I've spun my 125 to 10,500 rpms and never hit the limiter. Does the 150 have a limiter?

It has one unless you install a performance CDI.

I don't think that's the case. I haven't changed the CDI on my Blackjack and it easily goes beyond an indicated 75 mph - way beyond...

I use the following method. All scooters and motorcycles have speedometers
that are inaccurate on the top side. As a general rule I deduct 5 mph from the bmph to get a relatively accurate idea of the speed. When I am looking for bragging rights-----I lie!!!

Well, the rev limiter doesn't limit vehicle speed so much as it limits engine speed. Other performance modifications that allow you to go faster at a slower engine speed (such as rollers/sliders) won't be impacted by a rev limiter.

I am only made my statement about having a rev limiter with a stock CDI because when I needed to replace the one on the Buddy, I noticed there was a "performance" NCY CDI that was advertised as not having a rev limiter. And also the fact that once the engine reaches a certain RPM, the revs will start to fluctuate and will not let you go any faster. At least that is the case on my 150.

I've seen an 'indicated' 75mph a few times, it gets a bit 'squirrlley' at that speed on those 10" wheels.
I keep in mind the +/- 10% optimistic speedo and gauge my speed accordingly. Most roads I travel are posted 55mph or less.

70mph tucked on a slight downhill. (Indicated)

I am like Kabarash. My riding is totally on 2 lane 55 mph roads and I ride the 170i now a trike at 50-55 bmph butdo run up to 60 at ties.

1. 70mph
2. SF's "your speed" sign reported 53mph when my indicated was @60 (so what is that, 10%?)
3. 195lbs
4. BlackJack 150 (carb is rejetted slightly richer than stock all around).

57 mph by a friends chevy, I weigh too much, the 125 was at abou 4000 well cared for miles an the tires were Well inflater flat road no wind small wind shield. R

Let's not forget the 161 cc...pegged speedo haven't used GPS. Tons of torque...it will wheelie off the line if you aren't careful!

In a tuck at 60+ it is one of the biggest rushes I can get. Those 10 inch wheels.

Krispy...you need to prep for CBR 2014.. I have P200 motor to 225 cc will cruise at 70.

CBR is all about ride...wrench...eat....sleep...repeat!
