Modern Buddy

Im considering whether to buy an older 2009 buddy with 350 miles for around 1200 in great condition or a 2015 buddy with a little over 400 miles for the same price. Im not sure what to do! Are there any mechanical differences in performance build or power? Im getting my first buddy and love small motors.

Is this even a real question? The answer is so obvious it doesn't even need to be asked or answered.

Tires expire after 5 years. Batteries last a few years.

They are the same. No real changes.

if they're the same price, go with the 2015. The tiny milles won't make any difference.

If everything else is the same, go with the color you like best. If both are good colors, the 2015 is the winner for the reasons stated above. All the rubber is 6 years newer.

If the bike is 8 years old and only has 350 miles on it, most likely it has sat for extended periods of time without being used. Unless the bike was properly stored and winterized, there's a good chance the fuel system will need to be addressed.

Choose the 2015 if it is in equally good condition as the 2009. I don't think Genuine made any big changes in the Buddy 125 models between those years, but I could be wrong. The tires, etc. will be newer, which is nice.

Scooters that sit a long time, unused, can develop issues with the carb. (gummed up) and maybe the gas tank. those issues can be dealt with.

You might ask the owners about the scooter "break in" period. How they rode the scooters and if they did a proper job breaking them in: this is something to read about if you're not familiar with it. It's how a new scooter is ridden in the beginning, oil changes, etc. I think it's mentioned in the manual that comes with the scooter. I think you'll really like the Buddy 125 and be pleased with it.

If you like small engines you most likely will really enjoy doing the maintenance of the Buddy. Best wishes to you.

I think your question just got lost in the context.

No, there are no differences in mechanical build, performance, or power between a 2009 and a 2015 Buddy 125. There might be subtle cosmetic differences. (I had a 2007 Buddy 125, and a 2009 Buddy 150, and we currently have a 2006 Buddy 125, a 2009 Buddy 125, and a 2012 Buddy 125, and there really isn't much difference between them, except for the 2006.)

The best approach would be to go and look at BOTH bikes, test ride them both, ask questions about both of them, assess which one was best taken care of and is currently in the best shape, and pick the one that you like best.

Then come and do some rides with the L.A. Scooter Group (https://www.meetup.com/LAScooterGroup/) to meet some folks!

Galaxy Note 5 or Note 7 available used for the same price? Sometimes newer isn't better, which is why the OP asked.

But there's no big design change between a 2009 Buddy and a 2015 Buddy. And if both scoots have mostly sat (they have), a guy's better off with the one that's sat least. Simples.
