Trick to align splines on crankshaft with belt in way?

I think rattling in my CVT is caused by misalignment on my crankshaft. Right now the belt that sits between the variator and the fan is wide and pushes all the nuts further out then they should be. The teeth are not over the teeth and instead are over the threads.

Does anyone have any tricks on how to get around this tight belt? I've seen videos on squeezing the clutch plates so that the belt loosens on the variator side, then screwing in the plates after that. Is this the best way to do it? Or should I take off the clutch assembly entirely?
