buddy 125 carb and starter

hi all.
new member here. i am in the process of putting a buddy 125 engine in my metropolitan. the engine had the starter and carb removed before i got it. i obtained a 171 gy6 and was under the impression the parts were interchangeable between the buddy 125 and gy6. the carb bowl hits the casing. and the starter feels like it is too tight. when i applied power to the starter it did not turn over. but it will spin when not mounted in the buddy 125 engine. are these parts specific to the buddy? i need them in place to finish mocking up the engine mount.
