How about this? The ultimate retro motorcycle meets the age of electric vehicles. Still a prototype at this point, but more horsepower and a higher top speed than a gasoline Ural.

Absolutely gorgeous proof of concept. Doesn't look like they are going to be producing them any time soon, but what a looker!

Its a good idea. You can put a lot of batteries in the bottom of the sidecar. It wont make that commute from St Petersburg to Novgorod on one charge, though.

i'm very interested in the development of battery technology for motorcycles/scooters...if they can extend ranges, make them small enough, make them so they can be swapped, make them light enough, make sure they are reliable, make recharge times faster, etc...i think they would be able to contend with gas powered motorcycles...you would lose the engine/exhaust noise and there would be no more need to shift but instant power right under your wrist would be very fun...until these things happen i think they will be more of a novelty or for a commuter who can plug in at work

Crank-e has got a modification kit for electric conversion for classic Vespa. Yes, the Ural has a bigger place to haul batteries, but not nearly as cool as our scooters.
