Replacing my tires, do I need to remove the front rim disk

Post by BayStateScooterist »

Hello scooter pros!

Seeking advice whether I need to remove the disk brake disk from the front rim before I go have my new tires installed. I already have both wheels removed from the scooter (followed several MB threads). Plan is to bring the wheels to the service center tomorrow to have the new tires installed. Thoughts! The tire replacements are Michelin S1 tires. Thanks.

No, Disc stays on the rim. Use a cedar or composite shim to shove between the pads, so they don't close.

Two 12mm bolts hold the caliper in place. Remove them, put a shim between the pads and support the caliper with a bungee cord, so it's not stressing the brake line.

Thanks DeeDee for your advice! I will place a shim between the pads. While the wheel is off, I tacked the caliper back on the fork with the two bolts hand screwed to prevent brake line stress.
