While we're on the subject of avatars, I have a question. Does it defeat the purpose of the whole avatar concept to post a picture of oneself as one's avatar?

That's a great question. And a subquestion is whether the same is true about one's user name. I picked jmazza here for some dumb reason even though I pick cortadito on just about every other forum. No offense to any "first initial/last name" folks but I've never done that anywhere else.
I thought about re-registering here but that's kind of weird. Though it would be fun to play forum newb again. Not that I've stopped playing it as jmazza.
I don't think it defeats the purpose to put your own pic up there, in fact some would say that IS the purpose. But I prefer something more abstract.
Oooh another question would be do you use the same avatar on multiple forums??

.
OH yeah I was gonna PM you about that to make sure it was cool. I think it sums up scooters better than anything I've read here (at least scooter commuters) and so I HAD to put it in!!
i think of avatar as that little bit of customization you can add, and it can be anything that expresses "yourself" on my livejournal i have 15 diff. avatars to pick from, so then i have some that are appropriate to different moods...
AND one for wow
I'm a huuuuge Leeroy avatar fan. Except when I'm at work checking out the board. I teach at a middle school and I absolutely can not have my kids see it..they'd have nightmares for weeks.
i think i probably speak for the majority of posters here, leroy, when i say that if the bottom half of picture had as much exposed skin as the top half, thank you for not posting the 'entire' full-length picture.

LOL. I had to show Corsair that post when you said that; so hilarious! I was planning on quoting it too, but I'll let someone else spread your words of wisdom .
As far as avatars go, I vote for the italia transformer
in the scooter gallery, under "Dream Buddy". Just the transformer would be fine .

I totally agree with lojical1 here. KRUSTYburger's art wins at EVERYTHING! Even her simple sketch of the wiring trumps out most avatars. I vote for KRUSTYburger.
Thanks for the transformer votes guys!!! (Even tho my avatar is lame-o). I just took a pic of myself in my shiny new helmet... If I had to vote for an avatar, smorris's is sweet, but I think BuddyRaton's is my favorite cuz I like Mystery Science Theater.
Oh yeah, I was also wondering as a general rule of thumb, is it like bad forum etiquette to periodically change avatars, cuz I prolly will from time to time... I get bored.

I've changed my avatar a few times, and I didn't hear any complaints. In fact, whenever I make a new one, I get a few affirmative PMs about it.
