Ok, I finally got the 'cajones' to brave the Coronado bridge today. I didnt see a single Buddy either.peabody99 wrote:you forgot your parachute.DirtyRAT wrote:Coronado Bridge Plan:
* full riding gear, including knee, hip, leg, ankle, and ass coverage
* full MSF license
* full tank of gas
* some flares in the glove box, with roadside assistance on my Smart-but-so-dumb-phone's speed dial
* a friend in a car four car lengths behind me
* eyes all glued to the weatherunderground.com wind report the morning of my ride
PLAN B:
Get a trailer, tow the darned Stella to Coronado, and get used to it.
Its really not that bad
I snaked my way through city streets from Pacific Beach to Imperial Beach, then rode up the Strand into Coronado. I had a decent lunch at a place called 'Tent City', then decided to brave the bridge.
My Stella easily kept up to the 50mph speed limit. The really unnerving part of the ride was the itty bitty 3 foot wall between the bridge edge and a 200+ foot drop into the san diego bay, not to mention the high winds.
I just kept looking at the road in front of me, and was relieved to exit at National avenue for a leisurely ride home.

Ugh. Ow.
This afternoon I was headed west on Manchester, a reasonably-busy four-lane street, in my minivan and a guy on a black Buddy 50 in a fighter-pilot helmet, jeans, and sneakers is about 200 ft behind me. I round the right turn onto Hanley, another four-lane, and watch in my rearview for the Buddy. He comes around and down he goes. I stop as soon as I could get into a driveway, and some guys closer to the intersection jumped out to block. By the time i got back to him he had got up and pushed his Bud to the sidewalk. I asked if he were OK, and he said "yeah... But I don't think I want to get back on!". But five seconds later, he hits the starter and takes off. He buzzed out of sight before I could get back to my van.
Hope he was OK.....

No, Pierce Park is in Appleton, and 441 doesn't go through Neenah. Were you test riding a bike from Metro? If so you were in Town Of Menasha. I would guess you were near Schildt Park.BRUTEWING wrote:I've seen quite a few this spring. Green Buddy in Pierce Park in Appleton. An elderly couple, each on a Buddy at Kimberly Point in Neenah. People say that I'm crazy
But I'm not that way inclined
I know what I know and I'll happily show
That madness is all in the mind

A couple of new (to me) Buddys I've seen recently:
- Italia 150 with brown seat and grips (nice!), Shad topcase, parked on Hall street, near Broadway. Seen numerous times over the past month or two.
- Yesterday morning (6/21), approx 7:15 AM, white Buddy, female rider, turning off of Soutbound Barbur Blvd onto Hamilton (I believe). The first time I've seen this one.
