Guy has a Buddy forsale. No title, what to do?

Post by ZQ8 Blazer »

Ok this guy has an 07 Genuine Italia forsale. He says the manual says it's a Buddy 125 retro with a 125cc engine.

He said his daughter won it in a raffle and Indiana did not supply a title, but he has a tax certificate, Manual etc. He has a high feedback score and it's 100% positive.

So what is it a 50/125/150cc? Also anyone know what to about getting a new title. I know you can file for a lost title, but if I buy the scooter and the place that did the raffle has the title then how would that work?

Hmmm . . . I would be cautious.

Can he take pictures of all the documentation?
Can he take pictures of the bike? You could tell what cc it is by those pictures.
Can he tell you the place that had the Buddy raffle so you can check with them?
Do you have someone close to that guy that could check it out? Another MB member?
Beer is the answer . . . what was the question?

I imagine it would be a 125cc. The guy says that's what his manual says. That's the size they were...

As for the title, go back to the charity that raffled the Italia. If he's got the tax certificate, you can find out who that was...ask them for the title. Or at least the registration papers. Chances are, the charitable entity did NOT register the scoot (why would they? it would be an expense), so it would be considered untitled. It may even actually be registered to the dealer who donated it.

If you can get it, do it!
Yes, it's fast. No, you can't ride it.

Ask for the VIN, then call the DMV for that state or law enforcement and see if it comes up as stolen.

Alas, my mind didn't even go there. Reminds me, borrow etcher from PD and etch my DL on to the Italia...

I emailed him and told him to get me all of that info.

Here's the pics of it:

I would proceed with extreme caution. If he won that bike, he should have received either a title or a Certificate of Origin with which you can apply for a title. It's possible that this is a legit deal, but I would not be in a hurry to send him my money until he can provide one of those two documents. Even if he's not a scammer, you could get stuck. Sorry.

I wouldn't pay for it until I had it in my hands.

I don't think it's a scam, but I know I wouldn't have taken it until I had a title to it.

I would definitely request a close-up photo of the VIN plate, and then verify that the letter(s) it starts with are the correct code for PGO, and that a bike with that VIN hasn't been reported stolen.

You know Ebay doesn't work like that.

Does sound fishy, though. How are you going to give someone a vehicle as a prize and NOT have a title?

I am going through title headaches now....I bought a rattler that was given to a company by genuine as a bonus. I am buying it and it has no title only a certificate of origin.

The state of AL says it needs a certificate of origin in my name in order to issue me a title. It is not in my name, so they say it needs to be titled to the person who's name is on the certificate of origin and then sold to me like any other titled vehicle.

In order for him to get it a title (in MS) he says he has to get some proof it is road worthy and we are going through the process now in order to figure out how to do that now.

I am assuming you will find similar problems. Bottom line, I cannot get it titled, only the person who first acquired it can according to the DMV here. So I would nip this in the bud and see if you can work it out with the owner.

If it is an '07, they only came in the 125cc version that year.

I'm a power seller with 300+ feedbacks, I know how Ebay works like the back of my hand. His stipulations state that $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the close of the auction. He is 4 hours away so I could make it to Indy before the 48 hours is up.

Now if it was getting shipped to me and he didn't allow COD(who does anyway?) then I'd have to pay for it site unseen. That's what I did with my Blazer, it's been perfectly fine for 20k now.

As I assumed you did, my friend.

I didn't take the time to find the auction so I didn't know about his stips.

Why not visit the seller (if possible) prior to placing a bid?
I've learned the hard way never to buy any vehicle on the internet sight unseen. I know it's tempting but don't do it.

ebay is total BS. I used it 2x and was ripped off 2x. One was a "power seller". the other had good reviews...although after I bought, they took a turn to the dark side.

incident 1-bought a high end coffee table...the owner kept stalling as to why I was not getting it...."changing freight companies" ...."moved warehouses" , gave me fake tracking numbers, and so it went. Then I started watching negative reviews roll in. More excuses. I then contacted paypal and ebay and they said since 30 days had elapsed they were not going to do anything. I think I ended up having to call the local police where the scammer was belived to be (they were scratching their heads in mayberry), file a report and go through my credit card fraud unit. It took 6 months, and a lot of work to get my $200 back.

second incident- I returned (at my expense) a day after receiving, a $175 light fixture to a power seller that ended up being flimsy and cheap upon inspection. I never got the refund even though I tracked the shipment back...round and round I went and neither ebay or paypal would do anything. EBAY IS A SCAM CLIP JOINT THAT LETS SCAMMERS DO BUSINESS. I know there are some legit operators, but I will never deal with them b/c there is no consequence for theives.

LOL No worries, Tucks. Didn't think you were. No BOLD and no exclamation points. I generally assume everyone here is pretty cool. 8)

That sucks, Peabody, I've been pretty lucky on Ebay. Saved a ton of money on car parts -n-stuff.

I just paid $1000 for my Blazer when I bought it and they had over 700 feedbacks. I've never had any bad problems on there, but I'm cautious about most things on there.
Here's the vin see what you think:
VIN# RFVPAC20X71003329

His daughter is going to the secretary of state tomorrow to see what they need to do to get a title.

My SI was titled in Indiana, no big hassle (other than the taxes and fees).

You may want to call Speed City Scooters in Indy. They're the only dealer in this area so the scoot may have started its journey there.
