Motocross Helmets?

Post by bdarling »

I have a FF helmet, but I'm curious if any of you ride with a motocross style helmet. I have an Arai from my desert days and it's DOT/Snell approved. This helmet provides a ton of ventilation during the summer, but is it safe for road use?

I ride with one and i love it.

If the guy doing back flips 30' in the air on his dirt bike is wearing it i would think that yeah, it's safe for road use.

That the only helmet i use...i figure if it can save my head from a rock or a tree it should do the job on pavement. And hey...at least it has some chin protection

I know many manufacturers give their helmets an "expiration date."

I don't know how long it is or how much of it is just them covering themselves legally but if the helmet is old (don't know how long ago your desert days were!) you might want to look into that.

It's still no full face, but I'd think it'd be better than most half or 3/4 helmets, especially for the chin protection. With some goggles, of course, you need eye protection by law, even in states that don't require helmets.

I see so many people riding with no glasses or goggles, how can you even stand that? just the tiniest bit of dust will blind you temporarily!

How's the peripheral visibility with the moto helmets?

I've got a FF modular (glasses wearer) and I ordered a sweet regular FF to match the orange on Scootle.

This may sound stupid, but what does that flap do on a that helmet? I can't figure out what protection it is supposed to provide.

I have an AFX helmet. The guys at AFX are great. I sent them an email asking about the snap in cheek pads because they were a little tight. He ask for my address and sent me pads out of a larger helmet and a breath box so i can wear the helmet with goggle on my sled.

I see that the prices on there helmets have gone up a lot since last year
