new bike rumors

Post by LisaLisa »

I maybe heard there's going to be a 125 that's tuned jetted and restricted to get super high mileage (150+ mpg) but low speed.

new scooters

Post by Susan Pegsmen »

both Honda and Yamaha have new 250cc models coming out in 2010. The Honda looks kinda like a small Helix and the Yamaha is the XMAX 250 being sold in Europe. both low $4k price point

http://www.phmotorcycles.co.uk/bikes/ya ... x-250.html

no replacement for displacement!

Don't count on either coming to the US in 2010. Honda has a dozen models we'll never see here; they just won;t commit to the US scooter market and have actually reduced their US lineup. Yamaha is a bit more likely, especially if the Zuma 125 and T-Max sell well, which I think they will. Still, like Honda they release a lot of models in Europe and Asia which never make it here.

I stopped looking on international sites b/c it was killing me. I like conspiracy theories. Maybe if too many people buy $4000 scooters they won't buy $20,000++ cars as often. Case in point, we replaced one Honda civic for 2 Buddies  NEVER LOOKED BACK

I heard the flux capacitors are only going on the 125's because they can't get up to the 88 mph needed for time travel.

Welll, technically, it wasn't my dirty business. Based on this morning, I'd bet on a cat.

Zoe wants me to write that THAT CAT often misses the box just for spite.

That Honda 250 wasn't even a scooter. It was a motorcycle. The hump was so high between your legs there was no way to enter and exit other than swinging your leg over ala motorcycle style.

The old school 50cc Honda Cub of 40 years ago was getting 125-150mpg with a carb, points ignition, and could hit 45mph in stock trim. The new versions made today are injected, CD ignition, and can supposedly push 200mpg. Only hitch... can't buy the new ones here in the states... not yet anyway.

Try telling that to my 125. Its getting close! Where do I get the retrofit kit to put the flux capacitor on my '08? My neighbor has a Delorian, maybe I'll go see if I can use his....

By the way, the Yamaha is selling for about 3600 pounds, which as of yesterday is equivalent to $6500 USD.

I think LML should make the 400, genuine import it, and we drive them around.

The cost of a bike overseas doesn't necessarily translate directly to US dollars by the exchange rate. Often they're market-adjusted—some of these scooters are relatively cheap in countries like India. Then again, the US sometimes costs more because of changes made to fit EPA and CARB requirements (almost all scooters imported are designed to meet California's CARB standards), additional shipping fees, etc.

The T-Max 500 is £6,000 in the UK—$10,648 by the current rates. It's $8K MSRP here. That's still a lot considering the Piaggio BV500 and Aprilia Scarabeo 500 are both $6300 and (IMHO) are much better looking.

[Edited to add T-Max prices in UK]

BTW, I'm hoping for some rumors to become announcements pretty damn soon. All I can say right now is that some of the rumors we've heard so far are close to the mark.

I don't have any additional info on the 200cc Genuine, though.

My wish list:
-EFI
-seat options, cut down ones for someone like my 5'2" daughter
-step up model from the Buddy (bigger cc's, longer wheelbase)
-50 state shifty Stella. (catalyzed 2 stroke or 4 stroke)

For those of us considering replacing or additional scooters, Genuine hopefully will announce something soon.
The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.
