looks like some bum manhandled my pipe!

Post by onemandan »

I noticed today that the small pipe that is right behind the big muffler one has two distinct gashes in it and further abrasion around those two gashes. I don't think it has been ripped open, but the pipe looks pretty flattened around those spots . Almost as if someone had a sharp wrench and mangled it twice. Both sides of the pipe have the same two marks, which means something must have clamped it :x The pipe I'm talking about eventually ends up attaching to the small cylinder above the muffler. I don't have time to get to my dealer until Tuesday. Is it safe to ride until then? Do you think this is something the warranty will cover?

I always cover my scooter before the end of the night, but not at school where there are people walking around and other scooters locked up right next to mine.

Thanks.

That is strange, it seem like someone would have had to do it intentionally. Like with a pair of Vise-Grips or something.

Definitely intentional, made any enemies lately? Either way, it's a good excuse to upgrade! :P

I don't really have time for friends or enemies; I just go to school and work and mind my own business. I'm friendly toward all my neighbors, and they seem nice.

I've had my scooter for a month and it has only been one problem after another.

It looks like the little pipe is attahced to the muffler. I wonder what will have to be replaced and how much $ it will be.

Is the clamping on the exhaust pipe? Stock exhausts are relatively inexpensive, but the best thing you can do to improve the performance of your buddy 50 would be to upgrade to the prima exhaust.

warranty probably won't cover, but comprehensive should.

Darn weird. Is your Buddy particularly loud? And parked next to someone else's apartment? Is your exhaust made of Solid Gold covered in matte black krylon? Can't think of a good (or even a bad) reason for this...

It seems as of late that some people are taking it upon themselves to believe that every scoot rider is a tree hugger. That offends some...looks to me like someone tried to clamp the pipe shit to ruin your scooter. Probably some confederate flag in the back of his truck window peice of crap. That sucks and I would find out who did it and cut their breaks.

Someone egged my ladies car last night while she was over...assholes.

He took a heavy pair of plyers and squeezed it. He's probably hoping you lose power or your exhaust system backs up heavily. I wouldnt ride it unless you get that fixed.

I will ask my dealer about that prima exhaust. I'm just nervous that it will happen again. I've been putting off getting insurance, but I suppose this has been a catalyst in that process. I just need to make sure the insurance I get will actually be helpfull.

Thanks for the replies.

That takes a LOT of strength to do with a pair of pliers (I'm guessing about 16-18 guage mild steel?), but I can't think of any other way that that could happen.

On the bright side, it's a great excuse to upgrade to the expansion pipe.

Actually on that note, check with your local shop. There's an off chance that they have done a performance pipe install and the owner left the old one behind, or they could point you towards someone who has done the upgrade and you can contact them and negotiate a cut rate on a slightly used pipe.

Just a though.

WOW!!! can't believe no one knows this one.......

have you had your bike derestricted?
that pipe was put on for emission purposes to enter the U.S.
it ends up you losing back pressure which also makes your bike run slower..
be happy that it's crimped..it will do no harm.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't have a 2T but I know that a huge area of 2T tuning is related to optimizing back pressure from the exhaust.

It is obviously intentional, and why choose THAT particular pipe when there is easier shit to screw with.

Did you buy the bike new? Possibly the previous owner did some redneck mods to improve performance?

However, if the pipe was crimped badly enough to rupture, you might lose more pressure through the rupture and should get that fixed.

Just got back from the dealer. All I'm going to say is: case closed, and everything is a-okay on my derestricted Buddy!

No neighbors, bums, or zombies mangled it after all. :goofy:

it's part of the derestriction - normally you would cut that section of pipe out and crimp/seal the end

I just realized that was a 50cc, thought it was a 125 or 150 for a second.

We don't need no stinkin' bypass tube! Definitely done hack-style... but it was done to improve the exhast's performance.
