Classico Moto Italia XIV (04/29 to 05/01)

Post by ThatBloodyStig »

CLASSICO MOTO ITALIA XIV
Friday April 29th – Sunday May 1st 2011

It’s that time of year again!

Vespa Club Los Gatos is holding its annual scooter rally, celebrating Vespas and what they can accomplish.

This year, the game has changed.

As the "active riding club", we’re standing by our title by holding the first annual “Giro in Vespa” - two circuits around the Santa Cruz Mountains, for time, points, and bragging rights!

Friday Night, April 29th 2011
We meet-up at our favorite dive-bar in North San Jose, Hyde Park Lounge, for drinks and smack talk about everyone who isn’t there and who is riding what. We start our tomfoolery at 7pm.
1070 N 4th Street, San Jose CA 95112

Saturday Morning, April 30th 2011Breakfast starts at 8a, so get ready to ride bright and early (don’t forget your sunglasses). Rose Donuts & Café has KILLER breakfast burritos, so get there before the line goes out the door.
1818 Saratoga Avenue, Saratoga CA 95070

Ride-out to Stevens Creek Resevoir Park is at 9:30am. Kinda. Sorta. Scooter Time, y’know?
Destination is HQ for the “Giro in Vespa” – Stevens Creek County Park.
11401 Stevens Canyon Road, Cupertino CA 95014

Giro In Vespa
The day’s activities start at 10am. Participants are to visit VespaClubLosGatos.com to register into one of two classes – Vintage Class (of 25 years or older), and Modern Class (24 years and newer). Vespa, Lambretta, Italijet, Aprillia, your slowass Heinkel or whatever else! Two-wheels are two wheels, so bring it.

Got a moto you wanna run? You can - you just won’t get points for competition.

The laps will be 50miles in length and based on a Giro d’California rules : get there in a certain time or get dinged with points (if you arrive early or late). Rider with the least amount of points, wins. Forget cheating on the route – we’ll know if you did or not.

Those of us not running the Giro, will be partaking in other activities at the Park (possibly including a slow race).

Lunch will be served at the park, after the first Giro circuit has been completed. The second half will commence after everyone has eaten and participants are ready to get back in the saddle.

Saturday evening activities have yet to be determined, so keep close for details.

Sunday Morning, May 1st 2011
So you’re saddle sore and exhausted from yesterday’s riding. Whatever! The point of the point is – we are the active riding club and ride, saddle sore or not.

Breakfast starts at 10am at the Los Gatos Diner, in the grand tradition of South Bay rally morning rides. Fill-up on the grease and caffeine you’ll need for a 3-hour ride.

Don’t worry; we don’t ride-out until 12p, so you have time to do your business.
235 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road, Los Gatos-Saratoga, 95030

Our secret destination awaits our arrival, for one last cheer and farewells for a well spent and active riding weekend.

For further updates, Giro registration, & questions about the events, visit VespaClubLosGatos.com for details.*

Or, e-mail us at VespaClubLosGatos@yahoo.com

*NOTE* - This is an OPEN scooter rally. We don't do "Vintage Only" or "Twist-or-No-Go". Classico Moto Italia has always been about the appreciation for Classic Scooters (Vespa or otherwise). If you have a Vintage, we encourage you to run it in the Giro; show us how well it can still run.

ClassicoMotoItalia.com - REGISTRATION IS OPEN!!!

Post by ThatBloodyStig »

*CLASSICO MOTO ITALIA XIV - APRIL 29TH TO MAY 1ST 2011*

You heard right!

The brain behind Vespa Club Los Gatos has set-up a website SPECIFICALLY for it's annual scooter rally - www.ClassicoMotoItalia.com/!!!

Wanna run? You gotta register.

Registration is now open, which means it WILL CLOSE. You have until April 15th to submit your Name and your Scooter's Year/Make/Model. This information is necessary and to be submitted to VespaClubLosGatos@yahoo.com.

No fees are necessary. If you change your mind, no worries.

Just remember to bow your head when you exit and let the door hit you on the way out. j/k

Latest updates include :
• The Giro will Commence at Rose Donuts - get your @$$ to breakfast or lose your spot in the Giro;
• The rest of us not competing in the Giro will continue on to the Park after the last rider has left;
• Bring your swim trunks/suit/bikini/speedo-banana-hammock on Sunday - we're BBQ'ing and swimming (No Skinny Dipping Allowed).

You can still check www.VespaClubLosGatos.com or www.ClassicoMotoItalia.com for updates, details, answers to your questions.

Got questions about the Giro?

The Giro in Vespa is a time/distance regularity trial for vintage and modern scooters and will take place on Saturday April 30th during Classico Moto Italia. Rather than reinvent the wheel we will be using the very successful rules of the Giro d'California. The rules can be found here: www.girodcalifornia.com/files/GDC_4_Rules.pdf

Some of the rules have very subtle implications so study them very closely.

Navigation will be provided in roll chart format with "possible" checkpoints listed. The Giro d'California web site has a very good writeup on calculating and using a possibles chart (www.girodcalifornia.com/timekeeping.html).

It basically tells you where and when every checkpoint could be. We will save you the trouble of generating the chart but it's worth understanding how to use it.
There will be two classes:

• Vintage Scooter - Any scooter 25 years or older
• Modern Scooter - Any scooter less than 25 years old

Motorcycles will also be allowed to run but will not be awarded points. (think practice for the Giro d'California or other events).

The route will consist of two separate loops, of about 50 miles each, one before and one after lunch. The route will be published on the Monday before the event.

Registration will be open until April 15th. There is no fee for participation. To register send an email to VespaClubLosGatos@yahoo.com and include the following:

Shame you can't make-it, bro!

Have you registered yet?

I'm guessing not. You still have 1 month before we close registration and print-up the Giro directions.

E-mail us at VespaClubLosGatos@yahoo.com with your Name, Scooter Year/Make/Model.

April 15th is your last day to register. You can remember that date, can't you?

SO FAR, we have 3 GTS 250's, 1 GTS 300, 1 Fly 150, 1 LX 150, an MP500, and a Rally 180. The competition is looking pretty hefty on the Modern side. Plenty of room to compete in the Vintage. I strongly encourage you to register in Vintage, 1986 model or older, if you have one.

Pity you can't make it, either. You know the roads around the SC hills are always wicked for twisties.

Two weeks left to register for the Giro En Vespa, people!

Send us an e-mail @ VespaClubLosGatos@Yahoo.COM with your Name, Scooter's Make/Model/Year.

Vintage is 25 or older, Modern is anything newer.

What's competing so far? Let's see . . . that's :

4 GTS 250's, 1 GTS 300, 1 Fly 150, 1 LX 150, an MP500, a SR50, and a Rally 180.

The Vintage Class is still wide open. Any more takers? There's still time.

We're still welcoming motos as non-competition as-well.

Don't forget - Saturday is the 50/50 Raffle, where the winner takes 50% of the Cash Pot, and the remaining cash goes to Red Cross of Japan.

Friday Night @ Hyde Park
Saturday Morning @ Rose Donuts (Giro competion starts there)
Saturday Night is a surprise....
Sunday Breakfast @ Diner of Los Gatos

I've been checking registration e-mails and haven't seen anything as such. Might want to ask if they've e-mailed the club to dbl check. If they haven't registered, they won't be able to run or get points for awarding.
