Calling all Pod People...

Post by BigDaddy SnakeOiler »

I'm in the process of installing a RamAir filter and a Sito+ on my 4T. My dealer/mechanic insists that it will not run properly due to the engine not being able to get enough air.
I know folks on this board have 'em, so they must work. Please any advice or stories you have, including jetting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why not mod your airbox (by drilling) for a little more air? You don't need a pod filter.

Wouldn't that let in unfiltered air?

No, you would be opening up the outside cover. It's a relatively common mod on most scooters. Pods will work fine on a 4T because it's not a CV carb, but you don't really need it. It's also not going to filter like a paper filter will.

I have been running a 40mm Ramair for a year now with zero problems whatsoever. You do hear valvetrain clank though.

You obviously don't have a Stella 4t. The 4t has a oiled foam filter stock that is basically the intake for the air box (technically it's called a plenum). There is no way to drill the air box without letting in unfiltered air. You could make a higher flowing foam air filter for the stock air box, but it would cost as much, be more work, and flow less, than simply buying a pod filter.
