Brake pad / shoe wear limit?

I could not find a wear limit spec in the Stella service manual for the rear brake linings. The clever plug in the rear drum is not described in the manual either. By visual inspection there seems to be plenty of brake lining.
The front pad wear limit is in question as well. The Vespa PX service manual says quite plainly a 1.5mm limit. The Stella manual said something like 2.6mm ... but it wasn't clear if that was for the disc or the pad?
I like to know the specs so I don't get pressured into replacing items which still have service life left.
