I have a few quick questions about proper maintenance of a Stella 2T with a Malossi 166 kit. I didn't install the kit—engine mods are way above my skill level—and I'm struggling to find consistent information online.

Is B7HS the correct NGK spark plug for it (as opposed to the B6ES recommended by the Stella manual)?

Should I be adding extra oil to the fuel tank? If so, exactly how much? (I gather the 2T adds oil at about 2%, but I've seen a few people say the Malossi needs more like 3% or 4%.)

Does the Malossi want 91 octane fuel or higher (as opposed to the 89 recommended by Genuine for the stock engine)?

Is there anything else I ought to be doing differently from stock? Thank you!

My 2003 Stella has a Malossi 166 on it. I just use regular gas and I don’t add any extra 2 stroke oil. It runs fine.

I’m not sure what spark plug I have in it right now. It’s best to have a few different ones on hand. Hot summers usually mean a different plug.

Always carry a spare sparkplug and a small piece of sandpaper in the glovebox.

I run 7 or 8 in mine

The Malossi 166 is a hot kit. Hook it up with a 24/24 carb and expansion chamber and it will haul! I also have a P200 tree in mine.

I run 93 octane or 91 non-ethanol in all my 2T bikes. That kit likes high revs so it can heat up quickly. Higher octane delays detonation from heat.

I run 3% full synthetic..and I hammer that motor. At wide open throttle even an autolube is at a little over 3%. YMMV and I really don't want to start any oil war! Just letting you know that that's what I do.

I would suggest a Cylinder head temperature gauge (CHT) at a minimum. I also run an exhaust gas temperature gauge (EGT) and tach. Even so I have hard seized that motor twice.

Make sure your carb jetting is correct and it should be a great kit for scooting around on!

The BGM fast flow is a much better tap but on a 166 plenty of fuel will get to the carb. Why did I seize mine? Racing it cross country I do stupid things and blow up a motor every once in a while!
