2006 Blur - How to check gear oil

Post by grambow »

I think I may have a leak coming from the gear box. Is there an easy way to check the oil level. I removed the filler plug but the hole is too small for my pinkie finger to check. Thoughts?

There's not really an easy way to check.

If you're due for a change, about 90ml should come out.

Check that the drain bolt is on good and tight. Mine worked itself slightly loose and was letting oil go down the case. The wind would pick it up and it got slung on the rim of the back tire. It was a very slow leak, but it looked like the typical overfill caused leak.

I would still like to shove pencils in the ears of whoever put the filler plug higher than the spec oil level so we can't use the ol' "fill till spill" method. Grrrr

But yeah, for 90ml of oil, if you're questioning the oil level, just drain and refill.
