New Blur Owner - Buyer's Remorse (2013 vs 2014?)

Post by amateurhr »

I just bought a 2013 Blur and received a $450 discount from MSRP. I didn't realize it was a 2013 until I looked at the receipt and it strikes me that I should be buying a 2014 no?

1) When did 2014 ship to dealers? Should I be looking to get a 2014 over a 2013 (not sure if I could get this same discount for 2014... if they exist).

2) My total price was $4488.54 as the dealer charged me $260 freight, $190 PDI, $310.54 tax, and a other minor charges. Does this seem reasonable?

Thanks for your help!

First of all, welcome to Modern Buddy, amateurhr. The US is the only country that concerns itself with model years (at least in the scooter market), so the 2014 is probably the same as the 2013, and if you bought it new you will still get the benefit of Genuine's warranty.

To me if you're buying new scoring last years model with a discount is the way to go. The first 2014s that arrive were probably manufactured in 2013 anyway.

To the best of my knowledge there have not been any changes...nice score and give us a ride report!

The OTD price is in the right ball park and don't worry about 2013 vs. 2014. They're all the same therefore the same value. Just get out and enjoy your purchase. And, welcome to the forum.

ARE there any actual 2014s? Most scooters, aside from the very most popular models, are ordered from the manufacturer in a big batch and it sometimes takes a few years to unload that batch before they order a new batch.

My Vespa Primavera says 1973 on the title and 1971 as the production date on the plate, it's nothing new.

I wasn't sure if this dealer had leftover stock that was hard to sell. He did mention they sell thousands of Buddies but very few people are interested in a Blur due to the price point (it's too expensive for most... people that have that kind of cash usually pay more and get a Vespa so it's in an awkward bucket)

When I called another dealership they said they JUST got one in and it was a 2013. So it makes me think Genuine don't ship 2014 on time. I thought it was like the car industry where the next year ships near the end of the current year (e.g. 2015 cars are being pre-ordered now). Guess scooter industry is different.

I feel a lot better now. Thanks everyone! I can't wait to get on a 220cc. I've been sharing a 150cc with the lady friend... and it's so slow with a passenger on the back.

Just got a quote from another dealership for $3250 (out the door cost of $4,064). Steep discounts on 2013 as the 2014s are rolling in soon.

As others have said, I seriously doubt the '14 will be any different from the '13. I would take a killer deal on a '13 any day especially if the warranty was still in effect.
