R50 Battery Wintertime

Post by Frohbego »

My first winter with my R50. What should i do for the winter? Its kept it a garage and I plan on riding weather permitting throughout the winter.

Thanks!

Keep a tender on the battery for times when you can't get out, and keep Stabil in the fuel.

What agrogod says. Stabil and battery tender are my winter defenses too.

You might also put a cover over it to keep dust off and help prevent small scratches from "hangar rash". An old sheet would work well. Be sure whatever you use in a garage is breathable, not waterproof; otherwise you may trap moisture in that can cause rust.

I start mine up weekly and let it warm up thoroughly. I like to keep the parts moving and I like to move fresh fuel through the carb. Please be sure to have good ventilation if you do this. And also know that many don't agree that a brief run in the garage is a good idea. Better to ride it if the weather will permit!

Thanks guys! Got the stabile and tender. Once I add the stabile and ride it and use up some gas do i add more? like 1 stabile for every tank?
Just got a full face helmet which makes for winter riding super fun.

Full face helmets are great all the time, and super when it is cold. Do you have a pinlock visor that accepts an anti-fog inner lens? They work great!

And, please add an appropriate amount of stabil when you fill up.

Yep, you should be riding her all winter. Only deep snow stops me.
