R50 fuel tank?

I am trying to figure out how to put a larger gas tank in my Roughhouse 50cc. For the longer road trips I am planning has anyone done this before or have any tips?

No. I was interested too but when I started filling the underseat storage compartment with tools and gear I realized quickly there was no room for one. I carry a large MSR "white fuel" camping cylinder full with gas now. It'll get me an additional 25 miles or so if needed.

Acerbis makes a tail rack mounted tank with a petcock that holds 1.6 gallons of fuel. Not too big, not too small. Always wanted to put one on my DR650 but never did.

You plumb it right into your fuel system.

If going that route, why not just mount a home depot auxiliary tank? Much cheaper and a bit lighter.

Looking at this a bit further. While my scoot was fully disassembled I found there to be alot of wasted space in the floor board where the battery compartment is. I'm thinking about placing a second fuel tank there and relocating the battery to the right side rear frame in a battery box.

Adding a fuel pump I figure I can tuck another gallon capacity into the bike.

Probably hook it in series with the OEM tank so instead of tank to carb it would be tank1 (OEM) to tank2 to pump then carb so the second tank would be non vented. Petcock from Tank2 of course....no?

Would need a second fuel sending unit for the additional tank. I've mounted a Koso DR dash setup so I already have an extra fuel guage to connect it to.

Be careful with the fuel pump. If your using an electrical one 12v and not to exceed 1amp draw. When do we get to see pics?

Yes I don't want heavy system loading either. I did go manual choke so that freed-up some amperes but not sure how many. I'd like electric but will probably go vac pump. This is if I do the second tank at all even....

Pics right now would be pretty boring I think you would agree. Of all the mods I've done I can only show the Koso DR....everything else looks stock so far. I'm shooting for that too as much as possible.

The 150cc swap (coming soon) in this scoot will be harder to hide. Stretched and all...

Definately going for the sleeper look.

I saw one shop selling new 150cc engines for $500. If I ever break the 50 I will go 150cc too.

I got my manual choke from Provo but Moped Hospital has a pretty trick kit. Comes with an array of configurations. The Arreche will fit the Keihin's too both 2 and 4 stroke models.

I must have saved quite a bit of Amps because the choke body gets really hot while the engine is running. I'll measure soon.

The build thread thing, I have a hard time doing that. Seems once I'm on it I need to stay with it obsessing over it. I'll post something once finished. The 70cc conversion is almost complete then I'll move on to the 150cc. I intend to make it like a Transformer bike....out with one, in with the other, back and forth.

Interesting thread. I found myself coming back to town on fumes after underestimating my range, even with the extra liter gas bottle. There's alot of distance between gas pumps here in Montana, complemented by vast, good condition dirt roads that beckon you on.

The Acerbis 1.6 tanks looks very interesting. Found it for around $94. I wonder if it will slosh much, or upset the balance.
