Roughhouse/Buddy MPG. 70cc vs 50cc data.
Interesting I thought. Wife and I went for a long cruise with our mini scoots yesterday. We left town around 10:30 with Pisgah State Park in Winchester NH as our final destination. A 67 mile journey (verified not buddy miles) one way.
Our driving was mixed between secondary highway and back road. Lots of hills, both up and down. We kept the speed consistantly between 28 and 35 MPH (verified not buddy miles per hour). I weigh 210 and she weighs 125 lbs so she managed to keep up with those speeds extremly well except for the largest of hills (and they were very large indeed).
Her Buddy 50cc is completely stock. My Roughhouse has the Top Performances Trophy 70cc kit, 6.5gr rollers, medium Stage6 contra spring, stock clutch springs, Arreche 17.5 mm carb w/manual choke, stock air box and stock exhaust. It revs between 6800 and 8400 RPM's.
My scoot can man-handle those hills, slaughter off-the-line and actually do wheelies... Her scoot is just plain old reliable and she loves it that way.
Her scoot has less than 200 miles on it. Mine has over 1200 miles on it.
Her 50cc scoot made 87 MPG that trip. Mine made 82 MPG that trip. She was driving mostly 3/4 to WOT. I was driving 1/4 throttle or less....
For 5 MPG's I'll take the 70cc any day of the week.....

Sounds good!
If I ever get mine back from the lethargic warranty process I am wanting to do some mods. It is good to see that mileage isn't affected too much. I weigh 175lbs so I could probably squeeze a few more mpg's more with a light throttle hand.
What type of top speeds are you getting with these mods?

Top speed is unchanged for now. Last step is to change the gearing for more top speed. I get 44-45mph (verified) tops on the flats now, just like when stock. But it gets there in a flash compared to stock....
Your scoot is in the shop now? I said to heck with the warranty after 600 miles. My son with his Roughhouse and my wife with her Buddy value their warranty and will leave theirs stock for the first two years. I can respect that..

Mine is in the shop at the moment. If I get bored with the power I will do an engine swap down the road. GY6 150cc looks tasty and cheap.SteveK wrote:Top speed is unchanged for now. Well I installed the Polini secondary gear set. I must say that my GY6 engine swap has been put further down on the back burner now. I'm very satisfied with the performance of this scooter now. I feel no loss in the low mid range performance and can now cruise at 50 mph. New top speed is 60 mph. This scoot handles very well up there and still brakes very well too....
List of mods to date:
1- Top Performances Trophy 70cc kit.
2- Arreche 17.5mm carb w/manual choke. #103 atomizer/#30 pilot jet/#85 main jet/fat needle w/clip in top position and shimmed .032".
3- Stock airbox.
4- 6.5 gr rollers.
5- Stage6 Soft pillow springs.
6- Stage6 Medium contrast spring.
7- Tecnigas RSII pipe...(pretty darned quiet...
8- Pirelli SL60 tires.
9- Koso DB-02R guage set
10- Bluetooth GPS receiver (iPod w/nav app).
11- Thick gel insert cut into OEM foam in rear portion of seat. Looks stock. Feels heavenly.
12- Motorcycle registration and plate.
To support the above. Full blown insurance (listing all the above mods with Progressive for total coverage with no chance of rejecting a claim). Motorcycle endorsement. Riding gear, protection and Bluetooth helmet.
Next-up a decent paint job....

Here comes the hard part. Trying to explain sound. I have two videos of my kid driving past, one with the stock pipe and one with the RSII. I need to figure out how to post these on Youtube for the answer to this question.brianwheelies wrote:Is the technigas actually quiet or is that sarcasm?
It is louder than stock but not too much... (how many times have I read this..... )

If I mistake your post and believe you are serious (which I don't believe) you can look closely at the crappy video when he drives by me from left to right. In the first vid there is no pipe, just dark blurry. The second vid clearly shows all that chrome on the RSII Chromed pipe.
I too was confused when I uploaded the vids from my phone to my laptop. That's how I could tell.
The RSII is more throaty with the 70cc kit and carb installed. But both the stock pipe and the RSII remain about the same distance apart audio wise even with the BBK...

Thanks!
I told you I had to figure that Youtube stuff out. This was a first for me.

No I didn't upgrade the suspension at all. It is well suited to the off/on road role it plays. The RH has an adjustable rear shock. I don't think the Rattler's can be adjusted but I might be wrong here. Nevertheless it might be fine as is.
The only things I might want to do differently next time staying with a 2T is get a 90cc Jog motor and pipe from Scrappy and make bracketing to fit the RH or buy a donor Rattler 110 (106cc). I might consider a 19mm carb as well, the 17.5mm was a bit tricky to get so there was no audible detonation at high speeds with a "just cracked" throttle. And I'm curious as a cat to find out how much I would gain or lose using a lower RPM pipe. Otherwise I'm happy with the 70cc as all it can be, reliable and getting decent gas mileage...
You can stay with the stock oil injection with the BBK I used. Just the first few tanks of fuel add some oil to the gas. Like 6 oz to 5 gallons. Then I cleaned the splooge from the silencer...yuk.
I'll try to make up a list of links over the next few days.
