this CAN'T be rocket science.... HELP!

Post by Sl4ck3r »

this really can't be that hard but why am I having so much trouble putting the front tire back on? I can't seem to gain enough space to get between the brake shoes. The shoe is covering the gap in the caliper where the disc would fit through. Is there something I have to loosen to make it wider??

I've only done it on a bigger scoot, but on hte calipers there was a bolt that you had to remove to 'loosen' the shoes and slide it over the rotor. is there something like that on the RH?

there are a couple of bolts that look like something that could do that. Was leaning towards that being the resolution but can't find a damn wrench that is the right size. There is absolutely no way this disc is going between the shoes without loosening something. I'll do some more checking but you confirm what I was thinking might be the fix.

kind of hard to see but I loosened the bolt I THOUGHT would widen the gap but that isn't working. Here is a picture of the caliper.

kind of hard to see the space I'm working with but there is no way the disc will slip in there. I'm pretty sure it just slipped right out taking it off. I must be missing something.

Here is a picture of the side of the caliper. the bolt on the right is the one I loosened. it is located on the outside towards the rear. The other 2 bolts appear to just be what attaches it to to the fork. Maybe I need to totally remove that bolt??? Is this anything like the bolt you removed?

I think I am just doing it wrong. I have to remove the caliper from the fork then attach the wheel the attach the caliper. Going to give that a try.

my brake pad came out of where it should be at. the question is how do I reposition it how it should be like it is in the picture. ugh...

so I got it all back together brake pads in place and front end reassembled. The brake pad actually popped out of the retainer clip and I couldn't seem to get it back into place without disassembling the caliper to get to it. My front brake doesn't grab like it did before disassembling the front tire. Any suggestions on how to adjust it? Thinking I may need to bleed the brake and adjust but I don't want to run into the problem I've heard of where once you bleed them too far it's not reversible so it may be something I let the dealer deal with. When I hit the brake it takes a lot longer to come to a stop probably 5-10 feet. I don't use the front brake often so it isn't a huge deal to me it's still operable as is but would like to figure out what I did and how to fix it and know for future reference.

oh and the clips in the caliper that hold the brake pads in are $.02 pieces of garbage. Was a total pain the ass to get them clipped in.

There is no easy way to do the front brakes on the RH. You have mm's to work with and that's all they give you. A combination of swearing and perseverance gets the job done here. As for the pad not working properly "like it used to" (your not going to like this answer) the caliper may have stuck open. In which case you will have to remove it again and force it open to have it seat proper like ( a big c-clamp will do). Of course if the pads are used this will give you some more mm's to work with,
And since you have already been introduced to the clips....
